It’s all about Heart & Soul for Season 15 at the Belcher Center

It’s all about Heart & Soul for Season 15 at the Belcher Center (Kendyl Turner)

Season 15 at LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center was originally scheduled to kick off on November 7, 2020 but is now being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020-2021 season focused on bringing the East Texas community performances full of heart and soul, and now all of the originally scheduled performances are rescheduled and taking place during 2021-2022.

“For our new season, we came up with the theme, and the idea, to be a season of Heart & Soul,” said Cody Bowen, Senior Director at the Belcher Center. “When we started to plan toe season and we started to look at the shows that were starting to come together there was that theme of heart and soul.”

Bowen added that it’s important for the Belcher Center to provide some hope and love to their community through live performances on the stage.

“There’s absolutely nothing that beats live theater live concerts and right now, I think more than ever, we need to take of the fact that we can do this in smaller capacities,” said Bowen. “The performing arts is one of the things that provides happiness in our life. And with what’s going on in the world, it’s even more important to take time out of your day to let all of that go, to be able to focus and enjoy something.”

COVID-19 Safety Measures:

Public safety is extremely important this season, and everyone at the Belcher Center is making sure everyone is as safe as possible from the time they enter the lobby until they leave.

“You’ll see it immediately from the moment you walk in,” said Bowen. “We are trying to be as thoughtful as we can to all of the social anxieties that are involved with getting out in public right now, and when you get here you’re going to realize that you’re much further than six feet from everybody.”

Here are some ways you’ll see safe social distancing:

  • Masks: All guests are required to wear a mask when they enter the facility, but they can be removed once they’ve reached their seats.
  • Touchless Tickets: A new scanning system allows guests to print their tickets at home, or use their cell phone as their ticket at the event. When guests arrive they will go to the scanning station assigned to their seating section and scan their ticket.
  • Decreased Capacity: The Belcher Center seats 2,011 guests at full capacity, but is currently seating just over 500. They are also skipping every other row, and skipping seats in between guests.
  • Color-Coded Systems: There are social distancing stars throughout the lobby to visually place guests 6 feet apart, as well as arrow with information on the floor and signs on the wall.
  • Hand-Sanitizing Stations: There are almost 40 stations throughout the facility, and they’re located roughly every 10 to 15 feet.

“The most important thing is not that we can continue having shows, but that we can have these events and shows and people come and they feel safe,” said Bowen. “They feel like they’re going to leave here and be healthy the next day. And we are taking it very seriously.”

While purchasing tickets online, guests have the option of choosing the exact seat they would like, and see the view of the stage from their selected seat. If you’re interested in purchasing tickets, you can click here.
