Bee the first to hear the buzz... we are in the process of making Plants of Texas your local one stop bee shop. Come learn all about it! This class will cover beginner beekeeper basic knowledge and much more. We will have a guest speaker from Flint Farm & Apiary conducting this class. This class will cover PPE and safety, the hive components and tools needed, what’s inside a hive, comb, propolis, worker bees, drones, and queens. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a nuc and beebox at this class (to be picked up at a later date). Plants of Texas is excited to make all your bee dreams come true in one stop. Bring your kids out to fish with our rangers and volunteers at the fishing pier in the day use area. We will be available to help with removing fish and baiting hooks. All equipment and worm bait will be provided. We can show you the ropes if you’ve never fished before, or if you’re experienced you can borrow a rod and some worms and enjoy an afternoon of fishing. Beginner 2 Soap-Making Workshop February 19 & 20 Instructor: Carrie Bell 3 – 5 pm $45; All supplies included. Students will need to have taken a Beginner 1 Soap-Making Workshop. Register for this workshop here. On day one the students will learn about how the chemical reactions work in the soap-making process, add fragrances and colorants to make beautiful and unique soap, and will learn how to create colorful swirls in their soap. The instructor will review safety guidelines and then students will be crafting their very own homemade soaps! On day two the students will unmold and cut their soap loaf. They will also learn about curing and packaging the finished work of art!

Mamaw - Final Performance

Eighty-year-old Mamaw lives alone in her aging mobile home, generally wondering why the grandkids don’t visit. Filling her days with soap operas and memories, Mamaw quietly hopes she might do something more with her life before being sent to a nursing home. But when she discovers her little home is being invaded by vermin, Mamaw goes on the attack…an attack which becomes a small-town killing spree. Detective Ralph James left the big city to serve and protect in the farm community of Cotton Gorge Louisiana, where gang activity was limited to teenagers playing tag in the McGuffee corn field. When a mutilated body is found in a dumpster, Ralph finds himself chasing the wake of a serial killer who defies all explanation. Mamaw is an original play written by Dr. Minette Bryant and is based off her novel of the same name. Dr. Bryant will direct the play with assistance from her co-director Amy McCalister.
