LongviewWOW Spring Break

Spend Spring Break with LongviewWOW...Each day is full of fun! Thursday, March 17th, 10-6: Go Green - 1$ off admission if you wear green, Go green/recycling activities. They will be giving away chances to win a free membership throughout the week. You can enter each day you visit.

Storytime @ City Park

Needles in the Pines Quilt Show

  • When: 10 AM - 5 PM
  • Where: Lufkin High School Cafeteria, Lufkin
  • Cost: $5

The Needle in the Pines Quilt Show presented by the Quilt Guild of the Pineywoods will be held at the Lufkin High School Cafeteria on March 18-19, 2022. Show hours are 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Admission is $5. There will be beautiful quilts, vendors, an opportunity quilt and baskets, and handmade crafts at the bazar. The opportunity quilt was made by the late Bettie Ford, one of the members and quilt store owner who passed away in 2019. Bettie was an enthusiastic quilt lover and maker of complex and beautiful pieces of quilted art. She was a wealth of quilting information and help to all who visited her store. The guild is honoring her at this show. The show was originally scheduled in 2021 but had to be cancelled because of the pandemic so there will be an abundance of work done by guild members. Come and enjoy!

Diaper Drive Event

Join them for a fun lunch event! They have been collecting diapers for their local ministry partners: Living Alternatives, Mercy Manor, Expectant Hearts, and The Fostering Collective. Poke In Da Eye will be present with their food truck, there is a fun diaper maze to walk through, a balloon arch from KornPop, and more! Stop by the station to meet the ministry partners you hear about and grab a bite to eat. Rusk Poets’ Society

Please join us at Smalltown Books on Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 for the very first meeting of Rusk Poets’ Society! If you like, love, write, read, or are otherwise interested in poetry, we would love to have you! We want to foster a love for poetry in our community. Bring your favorite poems (yours or someone else’s) if you’d like to share this first meeting. It will be a laid back meeting where we want to get your input on what you’d like to get out of the group. We would like to aim at ages 12 to 150 in case there are mature topics sometimes. If you are younger and interested, please bring your guardian and come chat with us. We look forward to seeing all of you!

Free Kids Friday

Night and Day

Audiences will hear the songs that made music history including some crooning along with Frank Sinatra’s and Dean Martin’s most popular hits. Several of the World Famous Kilgore College Rangerettes will also be on hand as a welcome to opening night at the theatre. “This will be a tribute to all songs of the Big Band Era. Historic Bowers Mansion Ghost Hunt

Built 1878, and located just a stone’s throw away from downtown Palestine TX, lies one of the city’s most historic and infamous mansions. This Victorian home and National Texas Historic Landmark has a deep history, with stories of death, murder, and suicide. Back in the 1950′s the then-owner Mr. Bowers, murdered his wife Mary. As the police made their way up the path to enter the home, Mr. Bowers committed suicide. It’s believed that their spirits still linger, as well as several others who took their last breath here over the years. In addition to the 140+ year old home itself, there are several other buildings on the grounds, some of which are accessible, the servants quarters is the only building that cannot be accessed currently. This is an incredible building with so much history, and you will be one of the first people to investigate it! Sign up here.

Fun Run and 5K

Our Beer Run this year will start downtown and end at brewery for a full 5K. Walk or Run and get free beer ,water and snacks on the way. Prizes will be awarded for the best dog. Beginner Beekeeping Class

Back by popular demand, our Beginner Beekeeping class! March 19th at the tent in Tyler (4301 Watson St.) Don’t miss out on the buzz! This class will cover beginner beekeeper basic knowledge and much more. We will have a bee expert leading this class. This class will cover PPE and safety, the hive components and tools needed, what’s inside a hive, comb, propolis, worker bees, drones, and queens. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a nuc and beebox at this class (to be picked up at a later date). Plants of Texas is excited to make all your bee dreams come true in one stop. Dogwood Festival

The 84th Dogwood Festival is the longest running Dogwood Festival in the state of Texas and is held in the charming Historic Downtown and Old Town district of Palestine, Texas. The Festival kicks off the Dogwood Celebration with locals and guests celebrating the season of beautiful Dogwood blooms of East Texas. Live music, art, specialty products, food vendors, kids activities and more will fill the city of Palestine.

Fiddle Zoo for Kids

Fiddle Zoo for Kids is a fun and exciting instrument petting zoo for children of all ages and their families. Goat Lucky Goat Yoga

Kayak and Canoe with a Ranger

Ranger Shannon will be taking you out on the lake to paddle around the island and day use area viewing some of what Martin Lake has to offer. We will loan you a canoe, but it is first come first serve. Please call the office at 903-836-4336 between 8am and 4pm to sign up for a canoe for the event. Meet at the canoe rack next to the boat ramp for the event.

When you want to eat in Canton you come to the Downtown Square! With over 11 different restaurants serving up great food and great service. The Main Street Program plans the dinner on main street event each year to show off the great variety of food we have downtown, live music, and a bar. March 19th is your chance to try them all. Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition

Inspired by a visit to an art exhibition, Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky wrote Pictures at an Exhibition in memory of his friend Viktor Hartmann who died suddenly in 1873 at the age of 39. Hartmann was a visual artist and in this work Mussorgsky imagines himself strolling through an exhibit of his friend’s works, contemplating each one as he goes. With imaginative movements such as the Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks and Baba Yaga’s Hut on Fowl’s Legs, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition conjures up magical and expressive illustrations through music. New Texas Sinfonia, Jiyoung Park, violin, Alisa Coffey, harp, Weston Jennings, conductor. This program runs approximately 1 hour, 40 minutes. Historic Bowers Mansion Ghost Hunt

Built 1878, and located just a stone’s throw away from downtown Palestine TX, lies one of the city’s most historic and infamous mansions. This Victorian home and National Texas Historic Landmark has a deep history, with stories of death, murder, and suicide. Back in the 1950′s the then-owner Mr. Bowers, murdered his wife Mary. As the police made their way up the path to enter the home, Mr. Bowers committed suicide. It’s believed that their spirits still linger, as well as several others who took their last breath here over the years. In addition to the 140+ year old home itself, there are several other buildings on the grounds, some of which are accessible, the servants quarters is the only building that cannot be accessed currently. This is an incredible building with so much history, and you will be one of the first people to investigate it! Sign up here.

Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition

Inspired by a visit to an art exhibition, Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky wrote Pictures at an Exhibition in memory of his friend Viktor Hartmann who died suddenly in 1873 at the age of 39. Hartmann was a visual artist and in this work Mussorgsky imagines himself strolling through an exhibit of his friend’s works, contemplating each one as he goes. With imaginative movements such as the Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks and Baba Yaga’s Hut on Fowl’s Legs, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition conjures up magical and expressive illustrations through music. New Texas Sinfonia, Jiyoung Park, violin, Alisa Coffey, harp, Weston Jennings, conductor. This program runs approximately 1 hour, 40 minutes.
