Celebrating National Historic Preservation Month

The City of Tyler and the Historic Preservation Board are partnering with Historic Tyler and Heart of Tyler to host Brick Street Trivia Night celebrating National Historic Preservation Month. Brick Street Trivia Night, a night of historic Tyler trivia, will be held at Liberty Hall Theater on Thursday, May 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free and food will be provided. Anyone wishing to attend must register at www.HistoricTyler.org.

The City will be highlighting the importance of preserving Tyler’s local history, explaining the landmark designation process, showcasing local landmarks and districts, and promoting the benefits of historic preservation within the community throughout the month of May.

Some form of Preservation Month has been celebrated since 1973. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has played a major role in leading past efforts. The Trust is encouraging everyone to celebrate Preservation Month through the “This Place Matters” campaign. More information can be found by visiting www.ThisPlaceMatters.org.

“This year’s theme is ‘People Saving Places’ which is intended to recognize the role that everyone can play in historic preservation, both big and small!” said Planning Director Kyle Kingma, AICP.
