Grapevine Launches Planes and Trains Guided Tour

This June, Grapevine has launched a new fun-filled educational experience for the whole family: the Planes and Trains Guided Tour package—a combination of Grapevine Main Station & Observation Tower Tour, a one-hour train ride aboard the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, and a stop at Founders’ Plaza Airport Observation Area.

The tour begins at Grapevine Visitor Information Center, located at 815 S. Main St., and takes visitors through Grapevine Main Station to the top of the Observation Tower, where they can watch airplanes take off and land and learn about the history of DFW International Airport. This is followed by a guided stroll through the 1888 Cotton Belt Train Depot and a one-hour excursion on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad—where an old-fashioned train robbery is rumored to take place! From there, participants will take a chartered ride on the Grapevine Visitors Shuttle down Historic Main Street, past the 9/11 Memorial, to Founders’ Plaza Airport Observation Area at DFW International Airport runway, where they will be able to view public art and educational pieces as well as watch aircraft from around the world take off and land. Visitors may even be able to hear dialogue between pilots from the control tower. This is followed by a short shuttle ride back to Grapevine Main Station.

David Taylor, Director of Destination and Facility Experiences, said this new package offers a unique experience for the whole family.

“Families are looking for something fun, interesting and different to do this summer—and the Planes and Trains Guided Tour package is just that,” Taylor said. “Once in the tower, our knowledgeable tour guides will describe points of interest in Grapevine and the DFW metroplex from 150 feet in the air, where guests can see the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines as well as watch planes take off and land at DFW Airport. Then, a relaxing excursion on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad allows folks to enjoy the breeze, followed by a trip to Founders’ Plaza Airport Observation Area. It’s not only educational, but entertaining, and families will be able to create lasting memories.”

The Planes and Trains Guided Tour will take place every Friday through August 12. Tours start at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., beginning at the Grapevine Visitor Information Center. The cost is $20 per person, and total time of the tour is 2 hours, 45 minutes. For more information, email GVMVC@GrapevineTexasUSA.com.
