Extra sweetness for our furry friends at the Caldwell Zoo

It’s not just us humans that are trying to find ways to beat this Texas heat! To help spread some joy, the Caldwell Zoo has launched Watermelon Wednesdays, where some of the animals will be given a sweet slice of watermelon to enjoy during these hot summer days. Watermelon Wednesdays will happen every Wednesday in July and August, will the feedings scheduled throughout the day. Visitors can find those feeding schedules posted at the zoo, and do not cost any extra to go see.

“Many of our animals here at the zoo find watermelon to just be irresistible,” said Steve Marshall, President and CEO of the Caldwell Zoo. “You can see them get excited and gobble up the goodness. And, of course, we do these type of additions to enrich their lives to keep them vibrant and thriving. So, join us on Wednesdays and we’ll share the joy.”

The Chakula Café will also offer slices of watermelon to any and all human guests as well. While watermelons are tasty, there’s more to this than just a treat. The zoo is constantly adding experiences for the animals as enrichments. New foods are added or new smells or even hiding different items keep the animals engaged mentally and physically.

The Caldwell zoo is open every day of the week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
