How many times after dinner have you heard someone say ‘Now, I just need something sweet’? Well have we found the sweetest place over in Liberty City that’s bringing all kinds of treats your way.
Since January of 2021, Owners Jason and Carmen Watkins have brought us Watkins Candy, a family owned and operated confectionery that’s taking care of East Texans and all sorts of visitors that pass through the interstate.
“It kind of brought me home, I was in the oil field for 17-18 years, so I wanted to come home and see my grandkids,” said Jason. “People love the caramel apples, the dipped strawberries, we actually have a cheesecake stuffed strawberry. We’ve been blessed. We have added some things and most everything we’ve added we’ve kept.”
And even if you aren’t passing by Liberty City any time soon, you can say hello and pick up some treats at their First Mondays booth in Canton.
“We actually have people that come from Terrell and Dallas for our fudge and dipped berries, which is very flattering for us,” said Jason. “We meet a lot of people, and we’ve been able to touch a lot more folks with that place in Canton.”
With things like fudge (more flavors than I can count!), taffy, toffy, cake pops, brittle, cotton candy, dipped berries, lollipops, potato chip bark, and of course ice cream and boba to top it off, it’s easy to see why people flock over to visit Watkins Candy.
Most everything you see is made in house, fresh and local, by the Watkins family. They do also take orders for events such as birthdays, school functions, and church functions, as well as handling seasonal orders for holidays and special occasions.
