Celebrate the railroad heritage of Mineola at the Iron Horse Heritage Festival

A giant community event is coming soon to Mineola! The Iron Horse Heritage Festival, a celebration of Mineola’s historic railroad heritage, is coming Saturday, September 24th.

The event will run form 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in downtown Mineola. Entertainment will be going on all day in the Gazebo at the intersection of Commerce and Johnson streets, next to the rail line that is the heart of the festival and genesis of the community.

The Iron Horse Heritage Festival celebrates the town’s incorporation as the railroads arrived in 1873. Mineola came into existence when the railroads built lines through the eastern part of the state. In 1873, the Texas and Pacific and the International-Great Northern raced to see which could get to Mineola first. The I-GN reached the finish 15 minutes earlier.
