Jump Ring Jewelry

Learn some basic techniques to combine jump rings to create stylish bracelets or earrings. This workshop is suited to novice jewelry makers.

LIVE MUSIC: The Joanitones

Kevin James Live

Kevin James, the King of Queens, premiered in 1998, ran for nine seasons on CBS with James starring and executive producing, and it garnered him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. James was the producer, co-writer, and star of the hit comedies Paul Blart: Mall Cop 1 & 2, Zookeeper, and Here Comes The Boom.

Hailed as an artist of ‘magnificent pianism’ with an ‘engaging personality’, Guernsey-born pianist Tom Hicks returns to kick off our season with dazzling masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries. During his career, he has appeared as recitalist in venues such as The Wigmore Hall in London, The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, and many other venues throughout Europe and the United States. He has been particularly lauded for his complete cycles of the Rachmaninoff and Brahms Piano Concerti. His program highlights both perennial favorites of the Romantic era alongside lesser known, yet equally captivating works from the last century.

Pianist Tom Hicks will present a guest recital that features works by British composers when he performs at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in the Music Recital Hall, Wright Music Building, on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. The recital is a presentation of the SFA School of Music and includes music by Robert Schumann, John Ireland and Samuel Coleridge Taylor, among others.

Claire Salli Guest Artist

Alumna Claire Salli will return to her alma mater to present a saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. Salli, who earned a Bachelor is Music Education in 2017, will present “The Unaccompanied Saxophone,” which features music for soprano, alto and baritone saxophone with no piano accompaniment or other instrument. Her return performance at SFA will feature “Press Release” by David Lang, “Deep Flowers” by Evan Chambers, and “Tre Pezzi” by Giacinto Scelsi, among other works.

Piney Woods Ultra

Texas Eco Race Series | Region: Forest | Distances: 5k, 10k, 25k, 50k, 100k

Tyler State Park is home to the renowned East Texas pine forest. These diverse, single-track trails will take you on an adventure through dense forests of 100-foot-tall pines.

Be sure to watch your footing as you travel through rolling hills and across snaking tree roots with dense pine needle coverage. This race is an extremely underestimated challenge with the humidity, elevation, and technicality of the trails.

Meet behind the Silver Canoe Park Store to learn about the bird of prey species that call East Texas home and the ones that are just traveling through.

Keep an eye on the sky for birds of prey migrating by the hundreds. A little cooperation from the weather can mean large numbers of hawks and other birds of prey flying over Tyler State Park to their southern wintering grounds.

Bring binoculars, a chair, sunscreen, water, snacks (or lunch), and keep a sharp eye on the sky.

He’s best known as the star and creator of the hit Netflix series “Magic For Humans.” But you may recognize him from television appearances (“The Tonight Show,” “The Today Show,” “Ellen”). Or maybe you know his work as a host (“Baking Impossible,” “Cupcake Wars” “Win, Lose or Draw”). If you don’t know Justin, he’s a magician and comedian who’s mastered the art of turning cynics into believers (or at least getting them to laugh). His live show is mind-blowing and hilarious – keeping you up at night wondering how the heck any of it was possible.
