Doubt: A Parable

Head down to the Mabee Recital Hall in the Jenna Guest Music Building for this brilliant and powerful drama! Set in the 1960s, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of his progressive philosophy and suspicious behavior. This story powerfully explores the struggle and intersection of faith related to how people choose to cope with, and address feelings of doubt and skepticism toward others. General admission tickets are $10.

SFA Presents “The Moors”

A dark comedy about love, desperation and visibility opens the 2022-23 season for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance when playwright Jen Silverman’s “The Moors” runs Sept. 29 through Oct. 2 in Kennedy Auditorium on the SFA campus.

“The Moors” is about two sisters and a dog who live out their lives on the bleak English moors, dreaming of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all three on a strange and dangerous path.

The Odd Couple (Female Version)

  • Where: Pollard United Methodist Church, Tyler
  • Cost: $15

Pollard Theater Center presents The Odd Couple, Female Version, September 29 through October 2, 2022 - which is Neil Simon’s reworking of his riotously funny comedy classic centered around two wildly mismatched roommates living together in New York City in the mid-1980s. Show times are Thursday and Friday, Sept 29 and Sept 30 at 7:30 pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees, Oct 1 and Oct 2, at 2:30 pm. All tickets are $15. Seats are reserved.

The Stone Fort Museum is hosting a Fall Jamboree and Hatch Green Chile Cookoff Kickoff on Friday, Sept. 30 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. to celebrate the Nacogdoches Public Library NEA Big Read. The Fall Jam will celebrate traditional foodways and live music!

Enjoy the musical jams of El Camino Real de Nacogdoches while sampling Dutch Oven cornbread and plum jelly made from the museum’s own plums! SFA Hospitality Program students are bringing plenty of tasty treats in the SFA Food Truck and a special seasonal drink will be served from the museum’s bar.

Oktoberfest at Avalon

20th Annual Day of Remembrance

  • When: 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Where: The Children’s Park of Tyler

Our Day of Remembrance is held the 1st Saturday in October each year. It includes a roll call of the children represented, t-shirts with all the children’s names, words about grief, songs related to grief and concludes with a live butterfly release.

It’s a special time of gathering with others who are on a similar path, remembering our children and grieving together.

SFA Gardens Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale

  • Where: Pineywoods Native Plant Center, Nacogdoches

Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2  at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. in historic Nacogdoches.

The sale will feature an array of hard-to-find, “Texas-tough” plants, with an emphasis on native, pollinator-friendly selections, garden favorite perennials, and trees, including Japanese maples, magnolias and bald cypress.  A list of all available plants will be posted on the SFA Gardens website two weeks before the sale.

The Great Pumpkin Patch

  • When: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Where: 2111 FM-95 N, Nacogdoches
  • Cost: Free

Come out and visit our Pumpkin Patch! We will have over 50 Shopping Vendors. Delicious, fresh food for breakfast and lunch. Live Music and Family Fun!

Pets in the Park

  • When: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Where: Bergfeld Park, Tyler
  • Cost: Free

Pets in the Park promises to be fun for everyone including the family pets. The event will begin at 10:30 with a Blessing of the Animals. Fun pet contests will be held throughout the day. Back by popular demand are the Weenie Dog Races. The public is invited to bring their low riders to compete. These races are always lots of fun to watch!!

There will be a Kids Area, Face Painting, Contests, Food Trucks, Dog Trainers and Arts and Crafts Vendors!

13th Annual Touch-A-Truck

  • When: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Where: Longview Mall Parking Lot
  • Cost: Free

This unique community wide event is held on the first Saturday in October. It’s designed for children and adults to see, touch, learn and interact with dozens of fascinating vehicles.

Touch a Truck will include ambulances, fire trucks, cranes, dump trucks, school buses, 18 wheelers, antique cars, radio controlled vehicles, and maybe a helicopter or hot air balloon! An inflatable playground, as well as many other children’s activities will be onsite for children of all ages to enjoy. Touch a Truck will also feature entertainment, prizes, community booths, an envelope game, a silent auction, and lots of good food. Admission to the event is free, but a jar of peanut butter for LCM’s food pantry or a monetary donation of choice would be gratefully accepted.

Everyone is welcome at the Longview Mall parking lot for this annual event.

The Stars at Night

  • When: 8:00 PM
  • Where: Martin Creek Lake State Park
  • Cost: $4 for those ages 13 and up

The stars at night, are big and bright, (clap, clap, clap, clap) deep in the heart of Texas!

WHAT TO EXPECT: Weather permitting, join a park ranger and their telescope to view the stars. We will be pointing out a few constellations and using the Stellarium app to explore our night sky.

WHERE: Auxiliary boat ramp at the front of the park entrance.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring appropriate clothing for the weather, water, closed toed shoes, and a headlamp/flashlight if you have one. We ask that you do not blind your friendly neighborhood park ranger or your fellow visitors with your light source.

COST AND FINE PRINT: Program is included in park entry fees- $4 per person ages 13 and older, 12 and under are free. No need to register, just show up!
