Free kid fish event in Deep East Texas

Coming up on January 21st, the City of Nacogdoches Recreation Division is hosting the 17th annual ‘Kid Fish’ event!

This free event will take place at Lakeside Park starting at 9:00 AM with prizes awarded at noon. Children ages 1 to 16 are all invited to participate, and must be accompanied by an adult. Participants need to bring their own fishing equipment and bait. The pond will be stocked with over 700 trout, courtesy of Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Kid Fish is a children’s fishing tournament, but is fun for the whole family! A fishing license is not required for fishing done during this event. No pre-registration required, as children catch fish, they can register for prizes by signing up at the weigh-in station. Prizes will be given in five different categories:

  • first fish caught (for each gender)
  • heaviest fish of any species
  • largest trout
  • smallest trout
  • heaviest stringer (5 trout)

Participants will be divided into two age groups, ages 1-8 years old and 9-16 years old. The Nacogdoches Fire Department will be grilling sausages, and interacting with the children. Nacogdoches Bass Fishing club will be helping with the weigh in. This event is a great way to introduce youth to the sport of fishing while having fun outdoors.
