Book & Build

After listening to a construction-themed picture book for inspiration, children will be encouraged to build with blocks, boxes, and whatever else the Library Squad can find! Especially for toddlers and preschoolers.

Join us on the following weekdays in the Library auditorium for children’s storytime! At storytime, we read books, sing, have playtime, and make arts and crafts.

Bosslight Sing Along Storytime

  • When: 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
  • Where: The Bosslight, Nacogdoches
  • Cost: Free

Join us at The Bosslight for songs and books! We will read books, sing songs, play instruments, and have fun with a winter respite. Come add your name to our gift basket drawing. We’ll draw when we reach 30 names! This event is for kids 9 and under.

Registration appreciated, but not required.

Game Night at SHINE

  • When: 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Where: SHINE, Tyler

Mindful Moments at the Library

Take a break and find some focus in our new program: Mindful Moments!

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and there are benefits to taking some time out of the day to meditate and be mindful.

We’ll discuss helpful practices that can reduce daily stress, and have a peaceful activity planned in a calm environment.

This month’s activity: LEGO building!

This activity offers enjoyment for ALL ages and you’ll be surprised just how therapeutic and satisfying building with LEGO can be.

January 12, from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Ages 18+.

No signup is necessary it’s come and go as you like!

SFA Gardens Lecture Series

Ben Miller, director of landscape architecture with Lufkin-based design firm Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong, will present “Everything you wanted to know about pruning and training trees but were afraid to ask.”

Texas Music Friendly: A Celebration Event

  • Where: Marshall Convention Center, Marshall

This is a celebration event marking the occasion of Marshall becoming a Certified Texas Music Friendly Community. The Texas Music Office, a division of the Office of the Governor, Texas Economic Development, will be on-hand for this celebration.

3rd Annual East Texas MLK Spokenword Competition & Showcases

  • When: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Where: The Foundry Coffee House, Tyler
  • Cost: Free

You are invited to be part of a citywide celebration of cultural diversity & inclusion as we honor through poetry the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King Jr!

This is the perfect opportunity for educators to expose youth to the age old art of creative self expression!

Memphis Soul

  • Where: The Texas: A Landmark Venue, Athens

Memphis Soul will perform live music at The Texan in Athens, TX Friday, Jan. 13, 2023 with Smoky B Barbecue on site for dinner and our full bar open.

The Wizard of Oz

MLK Jazz Concert

The Longview Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend Celebration kicks off with a jazz concert at the Longview Community Center. The event is hosted by the City of Longview in partnership with Arts!Longview.

Open Mic Night

A Legendary Coffee Event

President’s 2023 MLK Breakfast

Proceeds will support national programs for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

MLK Jr. Parade & Festival

  • When: 10:00 AM Parade | Noon- 3:00 PM Festival
  • Where: Broughton Recreation Center
  • Cost: Free

The City of Longview proudly presents the Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend Celebration.

Parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel north on MLK Jr. Blvd from Pittman Street to Foster Middle School. Free to attend. To participate in the parade, please register your entry by Friday, January 6.

Festival will occur at Broughton Recreation Center, 801 S. MLK Blvd., from Noon - 3 p.m. Festival kicks-off with a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated and expanded Broughton Recreation Center. Festival will include food trucks, vendors, music, and performances.

Winter Market

  • When: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Where: ETX Brewing Co, Tyler
  • Cost: Free

Enjoy local produce, pasture raised meats, eggs, breads and pastries, spices, and arts.

Lego Club

  • When: Noon - 1:30 PM

The library has thousands of Lego® pieces from which to choose to build whatever you can imagine. Display your work in the library window afterward!

Pre-MLK Day Celebration

William Lee Martin: Hawg Wild Comedy Tour

William Lee Martin is a story-telling stand-up comedian who just wants to make you laugh after a long day.

He’s a regular at the Grand Ole Opry and the MGM in Las Vegas and has been touring since 1996. During the 2020 pandemic, his following on social media exploded with his positive and upbeat “4 o’clock Daily Talk” on Facebook and other platforms.

The Dangerous Comedy Tour: Round 2

MLK Parade & Presentation

The annual MLK Parade is back! Please join us in celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with the parade starting at the Anderson County Courthouse. It will proceed down Avenue A, right on Oak Street and disperse at the Farmers Market. Following the parade, there will be a short presentation at the Farmers Market and a light lunch and refreshments served.

23rd Annual MLK Celebration

  • When: 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Where: MLK Community Park, Winnsboro
  • Cost: Free

Enjoy a parade, free BBQ dinner and live local entertainment.
