Hidden in plain sight within Nacogdoches, you’ll find The Cottage Wine Bar + Bistro. Opened by Benjamin Sullivan in October of 2020, this beautiful space provides a European-esque atmosphere with a quarter-acre patio and garden for visitors to enjoy a relaxing time while dining.

Originally slated to only be a wine bar, the outbreak of COVID in 2020 changed the plan.

“TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) told me there’d be no way I would open unless I added a food component,” said Sullivan. “So, we added a small kitchen and started doing crepes in October and I was the only restaurant that was open that was full dining. We had all this outside space for people to kind of sit and be socially distant and still be with their friends.”

Despite COVID shaking up the initial plan, The Cottage Wine Bar has only grown in strength by bringing fine dining that you would expect to find in larger cities right into East Texas.

The restaurant does feature indoor and outdoor seating, with firepits and heated tents outside as well for those colder nights. And while they do have a consistent menu, you can also enjoy weekly specials that are bringing new dishes to enjoy!

The Cottage Wine Bar’s wine selection is equally impressive, with a large spectrum of wine, ranging from European wine to wines found here in Texas.

“I got this wild hair and I saw this space and I was going to use my office. I walked in and I thought, ‘Wow, you know, it kind of reminds me of a vineyard without being a vineyard,’” said Sullivan. “I Googled how to open a wine bar and it just transpired to that. Never been in the bar business, never been in the restaurant business. And then I started the wine bar, started renovating the property to make it a wine bar.”

• Tuesday thru Thursday - 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
• Friday & Saturday - 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
• Sunday - 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
