Keep your kids and teens engaged with these summer programs

The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department has announced its lineup of summer activities for children and teens.

Two programs will be available for children ages 6 to 12: the Summer Playground Program and the Glass Summer Camp. Meanwhile, the Glass Recreation Center will host a LifeSkills Workshop Series for ages 13 to 17.

The Summer Playground Program will go from June 12 to August 4 and will offer a variety of planned activities, such as sports games, arts and crafts, fun water activities, and special visits from local organizations. The program will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM and is free. They will also provide daily breakfast and lunch.

The Glass Summer Camp will go from June 12 to August 4 from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and will cost $200 per child. Space is limited and pre-registration is required, so parents are encouraged to register their children early to secure a spot.

In addition to the programs for children, the Glass Recreation Center will also host a LifeSkills Workshop Series for ages 13 to 17. This series is free of cost and offers a range of classes designed to teach teens valuable life skills. From financial literacy to mental health awareness to basic car maintenance, these classes will equip teens with the knowledge they need to navigate the world as they grow older.

Classes will begin on June 6 and will run for about 7 weeks, with sessions taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Parents and teens can choose which classes interest them most and pre-registration is required as space will be limited.

Summer is a great time for children and teens to explore their interests, learn new skills, and make new friends. With these programs from the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department, parents can ensure that their children have a fun and enriching summer experience.
