Everyone needs an escape from all the noise and how busy our lives can be, and there’s a retreat that is perfectly made to cater to any needs you may have! Wind Rose Retreat at Saline Creek Farm opened in 2019 and continues the legacy that Saline Creek Farm built over the last couple of decades.
“You know, the more time we spend here, the more we put into it, the more it feels like home all the time,” said Co-Owner Wess McDonald. “Everything worked out with the four [owners] in our careers and personal lives that it just all came together at the right time.”
Wess and his wife Reshae McDonald, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Ted & Belinda McDonald, came together to purchase what was once Saline Creek Farm after deciding they wanted to team up and have a family business. They landed on running a bed & breakfast and the cards fell just right with a friend that turned out to be a previous owner of the property.
“We’ve always said that God’s plan is better than anything we could ever come up with on our own. And he proved us right at that time for sure because everything worked out with the four of us,” said Wess, with Reshae adding, “It’s not something we had ever done before, and here we are, and we love it. We’re doing it and learning something new every day.”
“It’s just fun to see everybody have a good time and enjoy the place,” said Ted, with Belinda adding, “ I really enjoy walking around and watching people when they’re just enjoying the property, just reading a book on the bed, swinging on the back porch, or just going for a walk around the park property or going fishing. It just makes my heart happy to see other people enjoying it.”

Whether you need a weekend getaway or a place to gather, Wind Rose Retreat can handle all sorts of events with their space.
“Even if it’s a family reunion, a church group, a crafting group, family weekend, perhaps a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday party, we can cater to those specific needs to help make that a very special experience for the guests,” said Wess. “Our tagline is relax, recharge and reconnect. You can just have that quiet time for prayer, meditation. You can have that time to reconnect with your loved ones that are with you.”
There is room for 25 overnight guests to stay on the property, spread across four cabins that can accommodate different group sizes. Outside the sleeping areas, you can enjoy the Activity Barn where groups can easily gather indoors (especially useful for escaping the Texas heat!) or relax on the back porch, along with multiple fire pits outdoors, swinging chairs and a swinging bed to lay out on, and a dock to fish or relax on as the sun goes down!
“Often times as the guest is leaving, they’ll say, ‘This weekend is just what I wanted. It was just what I was needing it to be.’ And just those parting comments are perfect. You know, that’s exactly what we were hoping for. And it just it just doesn’t get old,” said Reshae.
