Spring Plant Sale

  • When: 9am
  • Where: East Texas Arboretum, Athens
  • Cost: Free Entry

Stop by the arboretum for the best plant sale in the area. This spring will feature many annual pops of colors, both ornamental and fruit bearing trees, reliable perennials, and some warm weather vegetables. But wait...there’s more!! This year, Henderson County Master Gardeners will be on site to help guide you in the best selection for your garden. Be sure to get their Henderson County Growing Guide that will be available for purchase also.

Spring Foraging and Wildcrafting

If you want to learn about the wonderful plants that grow wild in your own backyard, then foraging and wildcrafting is the class you need to attend! Karen Jordan will be teaching on wild edibles and medicinals, so prepare to learn how to identify and utilize a variety of plants. She has been diligently studying individual plants in depth and has a wealth of knowledge to share. During the class, we will go on a guided foraging walk to gain experience in developing an eye for useful plants growing right now. Gaining hands-on experience with a knowledgeable guide is imperative with foraging due to toxic look-alike plants. Once you have the confidence in your foraging skills, a whole world of adventure awaits! $25 for adults and unsupervised children, $10 for kids 12-18 attending with a parent if paid by March 15; After March 15, add a $5 late fee per person.

Nac Snack Friday

Full Moon Meditation

Colleen Long will be hosting an evening ceremony at our Downtown studio Friday night, March 22nd at 7:30pm, and you are more than welcome to join us!! 41st Annual Tyler Azalea Run

Beginner Beekeeping Class

This class will cover beginner beekeeper basic knowledge and much more. This class will cover PPE and safety, the hive components and tools needed, what’s inside a hive, development times and stages of honeybees, a getting started check list, and much more. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a nuc and beebox at this class (to be picked up at a later date). Plants of Texas is excited to make all your bee dreams come true in one stop.

The annual Azalea Arts and Crafts Fair hosted by the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department is returning to Tyler’s Bergfeld Park, 1510 S. College, Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fair will feature more than 90 booths offering handcrafted items for sale. Live entertainment both days. Admission is free to the public. Food trucks will be available for a fee.

ETSO Gridiron Symphony

The ETSO season concludes with the World Premiere of a piece commissioned by the orchestra. Written by Dr. Kyle Gullings, Associate Professor of Music Theory and Composition at UT Tyler, the work celebrates the traditions surrounding the East Texas passion for high school football. The concert also features other sports-themed works, including Olympic-inspired pieces by John Williams, Vangelis’s popular theme from “Chariots of Fire,” and P.D.Q. Bach’s transformation of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 into a sporting event. The entire family will enjoy this uplifting end to the 2023/2024 season.

Urban Foraging at Kachina Prairie

Join us Sunday, March 24th at 1pm for a FREE nature hike you’ll likely never forget! Bob Richie will share his passion for urban foraging starting with a quick botany lesson on how to positively identify the plants we are looking for followed by a search for some of the edible fresh and tasty offerings that grow naturally in our area. He’ll discuss useful and medicinal plants that can be found as well. Bob is a Dallas native who raises bees, chickens, rabbits, cats and dogs. He likes birds, plants, bugs, fish, herps, fungi, biking, kayaking, fly fishing, anthropology, archaeology, etc. An amateur naturalist since an early age, he has spent much of his life outdoors. When he’s not spending time outdoors, Bob works for an architectural firm in Deep Ellum. He is also the owner of The Custom Coop Company which designs and builds custom chicken coops. He is a certified Texas Master Naturalist and past president of The Trinity Valley Beekeepers Association.
