On March 18th, 1937, time stood still in East Texas, as did the world.

A small spark would ignite the gas-filled basement of the New London School. Causing 280+ schoolboys, girls and faculty to perish.

Today, the New London, Texas School Disaster Museum & Cafe serves as a home of remembrance to the families that suffered, the disaster’s world-wide impact and the joyful healing process over the decades.

CAPTURING THE SWEET LIFE OF NEW LONDON

Although the majority of the exhibits can be rightfully difficult and sobering, there are lots of things here that will bring a smile to your face!

Just like their iconic Soda Fountian and Cafe!

Take a seat on stools that were in the exact same spot as they were in 1938! Order up a real soda, made right before your eyes at the bar. (We got one of the best Dr. Peppers ever!)

Hangout a while, order the daily special from the cafe, and chat with friendly volunteers who will tell you fascinating stories from locals who remember tons of the events surrounding the disaster.
