1min Pitstop: This Museum is the Salt of the Earth... Literally

Salt Palace Museum Grand Saline, TX

Salt Palace Museum

If you’re unaware, the East Texas town of Grand Saline gets its name from the rich veins of sodium that line the underground caverns beneath the community.

For ages now, this precious mineral has been mined and distributed throughout the world!

The Salt Palace Musuem, in the heart of downtown, harnesses the incredible history of how this precious resource shaped the lives of those who live here.

Before you step inside, it’s hard to miss the giant boulder of salt in the very front. This gives you a small glimpse of what miners see every day.

Also to mention, the outside walls of the museum are literally made of salt! (Go on... give it a taste if you dare.)

As you mosey about the museum, admire various memorabilia and tools that tell the stories of the revolutionary salt extractions here in town.

There are plenty of other sections here to check out too, including displays highlighting local celebrity, Chirs Tomlin, and legendary aviator, Wiley Post.

Next time you’re passing through town, don’t be salty and stop by!

The Salt Palace Musuem can be found at: 100 W. Garland St., Grand Saline
