World’s Richest Acre
Downtown Kilgore was once home to the largest concentration of oil wells on the entire planet. (24 rigs on 1.195 acres to be exact.)
Regulations today would never allow such spacing. But this was 1930 and the East Texas oil boom had just erupted!

On the corner of Commerce & Main, you can witness what this natural resource hotspot looked like nearly a century ago.
Stroll underneath dozens of towering derricks as they line up down the road.

Admire historical markers and photographs that reveal the incredible stories of how the physical and economic landscape of the region was totally transformed after the oil discovery.
This designated city park is also a great spot to visit during any season. Especially during Christmas time as they light up each derrick with festive decorations!
