M60-A-3 Tank
If you are passing through Palestine, TX this weekend you may see some vintage heavy artillery parked alongside Loop 256.
Located on the grounds of the Texas Army National Guard Recruiting station lies an iconic M60-A-3 Tank.
As you walk up to this old wartime machine, you’ll notice the humongous barrel and heavy-duty tracks. This thing means business.
This is the little pitstop is impactful, not only for history buffs, but for anyone who wants to get a sense of the sheer magnitude of our nation’s weaponry.
Also, it’s just really fun being up close and personal to this thing!

This M60 series assault vehicle got its start in the middle of the Cold War, with various upgraded versions added to the U.S. fleet in the 1960′s and 1970′s.
By 1997, the United States military phased out the M60-A-3 Tank for the new and improved M1 series. (Great info thanks to “Army Technology”)

*Travel a little bit further down Armory Rd to find Blue Lake Park. A perfect little oasis in the city, perfect for picnics and kayak fishing!
