Smiley Face Locomotive
As you make your way throughout the beautiful East Texas city of Palestine, you will quickly notice the impact that the local railroad has had on this community.
The town is filled with incredible art pieces that showcase the influence of the iconic rail line.
But there is one sculpture that stands out from the rest.
That is the Smiley Face Locomotive.
Made out of real train parts and topped with a huge yellow smiley face, this work of art brings joy to locals and travelers alike each day.

According to RoadsideAmerica.com, this gigantic sculpture was created by local artist, Dwane Hughes. Then established in 2020.
As you walk up to and around this massive train, notice its unique features like the large railroad spike and puffs of smoke that read, “Choo Choo” and “Chuggin’.” (Chuggin’ happens to be the name of this sculpture.)
As you explore the city, make a pit stop to this one-of-a-kind train.
