1min Pitstop: The Well that Started the Boom

The Joiner Daisy Bradford No. 3 Overton, TX

The Joiner Daisy Bradford No. 3

On September 5th, 1930, the East Texas economic landscape changed forever.

And good timing too! Because the Great Depression had the state, and nation, in a strangle hold.

C.M. Joiner, also known as “Dad”, made the discovery of a lifetime on his property in Rusk County. The grand East Texas Oil Field.

Underneath the earth here lies around 200 square miles of oil. The largest in the world, according to txrusk.com.

Today, you can actually visit this still operational well and rig!

We recommend visiting the rest stop at the corner of County Road 4148 and State Hwy 64 first. Here you can admire a tall memorial honoring this incredible historic event.

Once you’ve done that, go deeper into the Piney Woods to see the rig itself, still pumping away.

The Joiner Daisy Bradford No. 3 well can be located on: County Road 4136, Overton, TX. (Just North of Miller Ranch Road.)
