The East Texas Weekend Preview — Known for his warm, tinder voice and heartfelt toons, Jim Reeves’ talent took the country music world by storm in the late 1950’s.
Accruing eleven #1 hits and tons of songs on the Billboard Country Charts, this East Texas native’s legacy and career are absolutely legendary.
At the peak of Reeve’s stardom an unfortunate turn of events would come to pass. On July 31st, 1964, he took flight, piloting a plane with his longtime manager, Dean Manuel. A storm would shortly roll in, causing Reeve’s to become disorientated and soon crashing the aircraft. Causing both men to perish.
Today, you can visit a stunning, truly one-of-a-kind memorial of “Gentleman” Jim Reeves. Located right outside downtown Carthage, in Panola County, where he was born.
Walk the serene path, complete with a massive, beautiful granite guitar design, all the way to his gravesite.

Admire his life-sized statue that accurately resembles the singer and reflect on his music that capture the hearts of many generations.
Buried alongside him is his beloved wife, Mary. And to the rear of their graves you will also find the site of their favorite family dog, Cheyenne.
