The East Texas Weekend Preview — Here at The East Texas Weekend, we have put in thousands of miles all around the region.
From the Northeast corner of Texarkana to the deep Southern thicket of Crockett, we have visited hundreds of awesome destinations.
Yet, there is always a question that occurs to us... How do you actually define the boundaries of East Texas? Like, what is East Texas? And what’s not?
Although this might be an unobtainable answer, take a look at the video above and read our thoughts below:
NORTHSIDE:

While some boundaries of East Texas may be fuzzy, the Northern line is fairly clear to see. That being, the Red River. Any further than that and you are in Oklahoma territory. (And Arkansas in some cases.) We don’t believe there to be many counterpoints, however we have seen folks refer to the top areas specifically as, “Northeast Texas.” One thing we know for sure is that there are tons of fun places to visit up in that part of the region, like the massive Eiffel Tower in Paris and the twin-city of Texarkana!
SOUTHSIDE:
This is a tricky one. At what point do you leave East Texas and enter the Gulf Coast? “Or is this bottom portion simply, ”Southeast Texas?" Personally, as a Port Arthur native, I believe giving everything around Beaumont and below the credit as their own region. If you have ever visited this area, it feels like a whole different part of Texas. Lots of bayous, seafood galore and the ever-present Gulf of Mexico. A truly remarkable place to spend your weekend. We highly recommend Sea Rim State Park, in Port Arthur, and The Schooner Restaurant, in Nederland.
EASTSIDE:
Much like the Northern portion, this boundary isn’t too hard to define. With the Sabine River and clearly mapped out state lines of Arkansas and Louisiana, the Eastside of Texas begins/ends at these features. Pretty clear cut, in our opinion. Some of our favorite destinations along this boundary include the Last Republic of Texas International Boundary Marker and Three Corners Marker: LA/TX/AR. One spot that is super fascinating is the Eastern-most point of Texas, residing along the Sabine River in Newton County. (Maybe will visit there by kayak one day.)

WESTSIDE:
This may be there most difficult boundary to determine. Just how close to Dallas can you get before you are out of East Texas? And at what point do things start to become “Central Texas?” Quite a challenging, yet fun, discussion. In our opinion, a dividing line can be made between DFW and Greenville, Corsicana and Athens, plus Buffalo and Crockett. Of course this boundary can fluctuate. The truth of the matter is, there are absolutely fun destinations all around this line. Especially, the Davy Crockett Spring and The Groove Vintage & Vinyl.
How did we do? Did we add too much or leave something out? Let us know what you think by sharing your thoughts on our Facebook post!
Whatever the answers may be, we can all agree that East Texas is a truly special region of the Lone Star State. Filled with awesome destinations, great community events and some of the most friendly folks in whole country.
We just love East Texas! :)
