Historic Dipping Vat

The East Texas Weekend Preview — In the early 1800’s, East Texas livestock was in serious danger by the nasty diseases that could be transferred by pesky ticks.

Before the days of vaccines, pioneers for the industry sought various means of getting their cattle clean.

One method was by dipping them into these massive carved out vats, providing a nice soak of effective liquids.

While this method helped save portions of America’s cattle industry, not all locals were quite fond of the required, bi-weekly soakings. Which resulted in some of the vats being vandalized, and even destroyed with explosives!

Today, you can visit this interesting hole in the ground.
