Bonnie Parker’s Jail Cell

Kemp Calaboose Kemp, TX

The Kemp Calaboose

The East Texas Weekend Preview — Not to be confused with a caboose, a calaboose is another word for a jail. Usually quite small in size.

While these tiny cells were common around East Texas communities in the very early 1900’s, this one in particular is said to have housed a very famous criminal.

Bonnie Parker, Barrow Gang member and lover of Clyde Barrow, apparently was locked up in here along with another outlaw in 1932!

The length of her stay is not specified by the historical marker. However, knowing the the deadly result of Bonnie & Clyde in 1934 it can be presumed she weaseled her way out one way or another.

Today, the calaboose in its entirety welcomes you for a visit! Step right up and peek inside this miniature fortress. You can imagine that a stay here would be very unpleasant with this very tight quarters and only a couple of barred windows that would let light in.
