Carroll Shelby Gravesite
The East Texas Weekend Preview — From decorated racecar driver to innovative automobile designer, the life and legacy of Carrol Shelby is legendary.
This East Texan soared across headlines of sport and business media outlets for his unmatched driving skill and creative mind towards vehicle building in the 50’s and 60’s.
In 1964, Shelby was given the green light by FORD to design his own line of Mustangs. Thus, the making of the Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT500. Later on, his Ford GT40 Mk. II would overtake the racecar scene with world-wide victories.
He was also an Army Air Corps veteran, avid cattle rancher and happened to be one the longest-living heart transplant recipients before his passing in 2012.

Today, you can visit his resting place in Leesburg, just a short drive from Pittsburg. Here, you can view his headstone that reads, “From the Sandy Hills of East Texas to World Champion with FORD...”
On top of this grave resides gifts of toy racecars by numerous visitors over the years. Most of which being Shelby’s iconic Cobra.
