The East Texas Weekend Preview — Creatures all of sizes and species have made there home here in Deep East Texas.
Since 1967, the Ellen Trout Zoo has served as a sanctuary and public destination all for the love of animals!
From slithering reptiles to proud, stout felines, this local zoo has a huge selection of the animal kingdom to experience.
While the actual size of this zoo isn’t the biggest, it actually works out in your favor. Guests can enjoy a high number of wonderous creatures in a short amount of time.
Step into a totally immersive setting as the sights and sounds of nature encapsulate you and your family.

Choose your own path and meet the likes of the Masai Giraffes, Kellen and Luna and the mighty Nile Hippos, Jazi and Nakili. There are simply just so many amazing animals to see!
Oh! As you stroll about, you are bound to run into roaming peacocks. Not sweat! They are super docile and very used to guests. Just be sure to give them space and obey all signage.
They also have tons of East Texas natives too! From a stealthy bobcat to resourceful raccoons, you are bound to meet a few familiar faces.
Inside the Solar Room, you will discover a huge variety of snakes and other reptiles. Absolutely massive anacondas, quirky little frogs and interesting amphibians calls this spot home.
No trip to the Ellen Trout Zoo is complete without a ride on the Z&OO Railroad! Hitch a ride on this tiny locomotive around the entire complex. A perfect cherry on top to your weekend adventure.
