Smiley-Woodfin Native Prairie Grassland
The East Texas Weekend Preview — Bask in the beauty of all-natural, East Texas countryside.
A little ways outside Paris lies the largest section of native grassland in the entire state!
Home to 300 grasses and flowers, the Smiley-Woodfin Native Prairie Grassland has remained uncultivated over many generations to preserve it’s original landscape.
This massive space is named after the site’s first owner, M.L. Smiley, who purchased the land in 1899.
Today, this stunning meadow is managed by The Nature Conservancy to ensure the preservation of the many East Texas species of plants and animals that call this spot home. Discover all of the ways TNC is helping to protect this special pocket of local prairie.
