Fodice Community School
The East Texas Weekend Preview — Abandoned and dilapidated, but not forgotten.
Remnants of this piney woods schoolhouse still stand despite severe damage over the generations.
Built in 1901, the Fodice Community School was a hub for local students to learn, grow and develop into proud citizens of the region.
Following World War II, as East Texas communities continued to populate and expand, the Fodice school system dispersed to neighboring districts. By 1960, the Fodice Community School was empty of students.
Today, a shell of what this building once was still proudly sits among the pines. The west side, which happened to he be the school’s gymnasium, looks like some archaic castle with this tall, stone architecture. Despite its ruin, the school is quite a site to behold.

Not to mention, just getting here is quite the adventure as you will need to take a long, windy dirt road deep within the local thicket. During your journey, the school sort of just pops out of nowhere, towering alongside the massive trees.
If you are in the Crockett/Lovelady/Trinity area this weekend, add a visit to this fascinating historical site to your itinerary.
The Fodice Community School can be found at: 6077 Co Rd 4200, Lovelady, TX 75851
