The Easternmost Point of Texas

The Easternmost Point of Texas Burkville, TX

The East Texas Weekend Preview — Well, it doesn’t get more East Texas than this. Literally.

Located on the edge of the Sabine River, the natural waterway that separates Louisiana from Texas, lies a quiet beachfront that is home to the easternmost point of the entire state.

Towering trees, soaring herons and massive sandbars populate this area of the river. The serene atmosphere is something to be experienced, as you are fully enveloped in this pine curtain.

Resting at Longitude 93° 31′ W, this site is truly the eastern edge of Texas. A super fascinating geographical landmark that you can step foot on. Beautiful white sand and a variety of colorful rocks cover the landscape, a perfect spot to rest and take in the scenery.

Getting there is just as fun as arriving to the point.

Paddle alongside hopping fish down the flowing, meandering river. You may even see a gator or two. Make pitstops during your trek at the many beaches that occasionally surround the water. Take a good snack break and admire the natural environment. During our trip there were even families hanging out with their floaties and picnic spread at one of the sandbars.

*Warning! If you decide to make this journey to the easternmost point of Texas, do so at your own risk. There is no official trail or guide. Pursue within your own abilities and think safety first. And remember, paddling upstream is more challenging than going down. Lastly, respect the environment and keep your distance from wild animals.

For our adventure, we put in at the Sabine River Bridge off of TX-63. Here you will find a muddy road that leads to a excellent launch spot. The easternmost point is roughly a 4 mile ride from here. As stated before, prepare accordingly. On our trip, we decided to paddle back to the bridge. Going up stream was very tough. However, thanks to the many sandbars, there quite a few areas to rest our arms.

For any folks that love outdoor exploration, add a visit to the easternmost point of Texas to your bucket list!
