Aldridge Sawmill
The East Texas Weekend Preview — During the 1910’s, the Texas town of Aldridge was bustling with community and industry.
Today, it’s only remnants are a few buildings that serve a memory of its once booming forestry efforts.
This collection of structures is known as the Aldridge Sawmill. While all the equipment has been removed long ago, the husks of the operation are still incredibly in tact.
Hike the designated Sawmill Hiking Trail, which kept clean by the Angelina National Forest crew. Admire the sights and sounds of the local environment within this absolutely beautiful portion of the forest. As you make the trek, you will notice your sense of adventure growing as you get closer to the historical landmark.
Once you make it to the trail’s end, the mill suddenly pokes out from within the brush. A trio of towering concreate invites you to come and explore.

We had a absolute blast entering the old standing buildings. As we walked around, and within, we experienced such awe and wonder of what life was like during the mill’s heyday. The interior spaces are so huge, with literal trees growing inside of them. It’s like you are exploring some forgotten planet. We highly recommend a visit here for anyone that loves the outdoors, history and pure fun!
There are also claims of the site being haunted. The story goes that during the mill’s operation, a woman came to visit here significant other. She then fatally fell into the active saws. Spooky accounts say that the woman can be heard shrieking in the night. During our visit we did not encounter any scary supernatural events.
The Aldridge Sawmill can be found along the Sawmill Hiking Trail in Rockland, TX. Just follow Forest Service Road 326 South to the very end and you will find a gate where the trail begins.
