The East Texas Weekend Preview — The physical, economical and cultural impacts of the early day piney woods railroads and saw mills forever, and positivity, changed the region into what we know it as today.
Countless stories, friendships and communities were built during their heyday. And this East Texas museum/research center has carefully collected artifacts to preserve this rich history.
With a very fitting name, The History Center of Diboll is a massive hub for local historic accounts, specifically centered on events that took place in Angelina County and surround areas.
Inside this free-to-visit, absolutely stunning building, you will find incredibly detailed exhibits that highlight the legacy of the Southern Pine Lumber Company, the beloved Temple family and plenty of culturally significant events that took place over the past generations.
From old railroad equipment to captivating photographs, you will be in awe as you stroll about. Our favorite piece was the huge sign that reads, “Notice. All loitering, visiting and reading newspapers in this building prohibited.” This historic sign happens to be hung in their library portion of the museum. ;)

The outside of the museum is just as incredible as the inside. Mostly because of the pristine steam engine and caboose!
Hop aboard this 1920 locomotive, with a fully functioning bell and horn that you are more than encouraged to try out. Towards the back you will find a 1940’s caboose that’s been kept to its original look and filled with historical plaques inside. The perfect backdrop for a one-of-a-kind selfie!
This Deep East Texas museum is most certainly a treasure and a must-visit for the whole family!
