Oak Grove Cemetery

Located in the heart of Nacogdoches, the Oak Grove Cemetery is a stunning memorial park just waiting to be explored.
Stroll the tidy pathways and discover many influential figures from the origins of Texas.
For instance, near the entrance, on the southside, you will see a magnificent monument reaching towards the peak of the pines. Here lies Thomas J. Rusk, a political and military leader during the Texas Revolution. He specifically served as a general during the Battle of San Jacinto. Fun fact, the city of Rusk, TX is named after him!
Just nearby is the resting place of John S. Roberts. Leader during the Battle of Nacogdoches and a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independance. A must-see for any Texas History Buff!

Throughout the complex there are tons of informative markers explaining historical context, and even what certain symbols on headstones mean.
A visit here is a truly memorable experience as you take a deep dive into the profound richness of Texas history.
