Ruth B. Nichols Arboretum
The East Texas Weekend Preview — Elm, Oak, Pine and Sweetgum.
This seven-acre nature space is home to the many trees that make East Texas forests so majestic.
Located on the southern outskirts of Jacksonville, the Ruth B. Nichols Arboretum has been welcoming guests to fun in the woods since 2009.
Trek the quarter-mile walking trail that will take you underneath many of these towering wonders. Along the way, you can learn the names of the many native trees that spout up all around in our region.
On site, they even have a few planted trees with some super fascinating origins, such as oak trees that came from seeds from the likes of Frederick Douglass and Stephen F. Austin!

During your stroll, you will find the Cherokee County Master Gardeners Association’s Demonstration Garden budding with flowers and vegetables of all colors and shapes. Step inside through its main gate and admire the incredible variety of plants that thrive here in the piney woods.
Whether you are a nature enthusiasts, or just need some relaxation in nature, this free-to-visit green space is the prefect, refreshing pitstop among the trees.
