Shrouded in Graffiti and Mystery

Lacy's Bridge Jefferson, TX

Lacy’s Bridge

The East Texas Weekend Preview — Just a ways outside of Jefferson, which is considered the spookiest city in East Texas, there stands a interesting bridge above the Black Cypress Creek.

While there are many bridges scattered among these piney woods, this one stands out in many ways, mostly due to its colorful nature.

As soon as you pull up to this massive structure, you will notice that just about every square inch of this thing is covered in graffiti. Declarations of love, meaningful messages, creative caricatures and the occasional profanity have been sprayed along Lacy’s Bridge.

The actual history of this bridge is somewhat unknown. Folks have suggested it started out wooden back in the 1800’s. And as for the name... Well, that’s kind of unclear, too.

Where things get a little strange, is that it has long been told that this Lacy, was a woman who was murdered here ages ago. For generations, the legend goes that if you are to visit at night you can see her apparition strolling the creek’s edge below.

During our visit, we did not encounter any supernatural instances, but had a really enjoyable time visiting this one-of-a-kind bridge. and admiring all of its “artwork.”

If your travels take you to the Jefferson area this weekend, be sure to add this creative, and a little frightening, spot to your itinerary.

Lacy’s Bridge can be found at: 8948-8803 Co Rd 1617, Jefferson, TX 75657
