Throughout East Texas you are bound to find many depictions of Jesus.
Yet, this statue located within the Evergreen Cemetery, in Paris, has Him wearing a very distinct piece of clothing that is very fitting for the region.
Famously known as Jesus in Cowboy Boots, this local work of art has drawn visitors from all over to marvel at its unique form.
That statue stands high above the actual gravesite of Paris-local, Willet Babcock. Willet was a beloved man here in the city, serving as a successful businessman and champion for community fun. He would often host events within his store, which become known as the city’s opera house.
While he brought joy to many East Texans over his lifetime, he continues to do so with the popular creation above his resting place.

Prior to his passing, Willet had a statue built by German stonecutter, Gustave Klein, that would be placed above his grave. Yet, if you notice at the character’s feet, He is wearing cowboy boots!
Although there is no real source that it is Jesus, the man hanging to the cross, looking very stoic, looks very identical. Hence, the name Jesus in Cowboy Boots.
