Dear wine trail members and city officials,
Sadly, we are going to cancel the 2019 Piney Woods Wine Trail Festival in Lindale this weekend.
The board voted unanimously to cancel. I have spoken with or heard through email or text from nearly all the wine trail members, and there is agreement that we need to cancel because of weather.
As noted in my earlier email, the ground around Pickers’ Pavilion is soaked, and more rain is on the way. It is predicted to rain both Friday and Saturday and for there to be thunderstorms. Parking would be a serious problem because we can’t use the grassy areas, and saturated ground would make it impossible for some vendors to set up and present serious problems even for those with just tents.
I spent much of yesterday on the phone, texting or emailing city of Lindale officials and wine trail members. Everyone is disappointed. It’s unfortunate for the city, which has been a good partner to the trail, providing tens of thousands of dollars in advertising and other important support. And it’s unfortunate for the trail members, who looked forward to delivering our great wines to the patrons who come out. It’s a blow, too, for the many vendors and musicians who are important for the success of our festival. We all look forward to when we can do it again and see all the wonderful folks who come out to taste Texas wines and have a good time.
Many people have talked about the possibility of rescheduling for later in the year. We continue to talk, but there are serious logistical problems to try and overcome.
