Santa Approved: These 4 ‘Cookies in a Jar’ recipes are easy to make and delicious to eat

Whether you want to make them for yourself or Santa, these recipes are simple and tasty!

There’s nothing easier than layering a few dry ingredients into a mason jar, tying it off with a decorative ribbon and gifting it to someone you love. Then, whenever they’re ready for some homemade cookies, they can mix it all up and enjoy.

Below you’ll find recipes for Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar, M&M Christmas Cookies in a Jar, Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies in a Jar and Cookies and Cream Cookies in a Jar.

But before you get started, here are a few basic tips: 

  • Make sure your mason jars are cleaned and dried.
  • We recommend using the quart-sized (32 ounces) jars.
  • Have all of your ingredients measured out, this makes layering them much quicker
  • Have something solid to help pack the ingredients in tight, we used the bottom of a glass cup
  • Use some cut fabric or ribbon to decorate the jar after

Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar


Ingredients for the jar:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cups brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Place flour mixture in mason jar. (Tap the jar several times to get the flour mixture to settle to one layer, then pack it down as much as possible.)
  3. Then begin layering ingredients in the order listed. (Press firmly after each layer)
  4. Seal the mason jar, add a ribbon (if desired), and attach the printable recipe.

Ingredients to add in later:

  • ¾ cup (1½ sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract

To Bake:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F
  2. Beat softened butter (or margarine), egg and vanilla extract in a large mixer bowl until well blended.
  3. Add cookie mix from mason jar and mix well, breaking up any clumps.
  4. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto greased baking sheet (or parchment lined baking sheet).
  5. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes before moving to a cooling rack (or eating!)

Makes 24 cookies.

M&M Christmas Cookies in a Jar


Ingredients for the jar:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose white flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup holiday M&Ms
  • ¾ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Place flour mixture in mason jar. (Tap the jar several times to get the flour mixture to settle to one layer, then pack it down as much as possible.)
  3. Then begin layering ingredients in the order listed. (Press firmly after each layer)

Ingredients for the jar:

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅔ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ⅔ cup crushed candy cane

Instructions:

  1. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Place flour mixture in mason jar. (Tap the jar several times to get the flour mixture to settle to one layer, then pack it down as much as possible.)
  3. Then begin layering ingredients in the order listed. (Press firmly after each layer)

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

To Bake:
