Cooking Well with Diabetes 3-part series begins

Cooking Well with Diabetes will be delivered in three morning sessions packed with researched based information on management of type 2 diabetes and delicious, diabetes-friendly recipes. Classes will be held January 16th, 23rd, & 30th from 9:30-11:30 am. Following instruction, participants will get hands-on experience cooking a variety a healthy dishes and learn how to incorporate them into their meal plans. Felted Mouse Class

  • When: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Where: Blue Moon Gardens, Chandler
  • Cost: $25 Register here.

Make an adorable life-sized mouse with bendable arms and legs. Move the arms to hold seasonal décor: hearts for Valentines Day, a decorated egg for Easter, a candy cane for Christmas. We start with a wire armature and needle felt wool for the body. All supplies included. $25 Register here.

2020 Business to Business Expo

The 2020 Business Expo gives Tyler Area Businesses the perfect opportunity to view and exhibit the latest services and products in the Tyler area. This event is for Businesses and Consumers. Over 5,000 attend each year. Study Group for Citizenship Exam

This group is for anyone who wants to study for the civics portion of the citizenship exam. We will use flashcards provided by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to study and quiz each other. Study sessions do not have to be attended in order.

Pajama Story Time with Junior Forum

Join us as the wonderful volunteers from Junior Forum entertain children and their families with stories, crafts, and games! Wear your favorite pajamas and bring your teddy bear! All ages. Free. No registration.

Most recently, she starred in the critically-acclaimed Latino remake of Norman Lear’s classic sitcom “One Day at a Time” on Netflix. Prior to that, Rita appeared in guest-starring roles in primetime TV series such as, “Getting On,” “Jane The Virgin,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Grace and Frankie.” Moreno received the Kennedy Center Honor for her lifetime contributions to American culture and was honored by her peers as the 50th recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. Wild Kratts Live 2.0: Activate Creature Power!

In Wild Kratts LIVE 2.0, Chris and Martin take to the stage to activate new Creature Powers and go “off to the creature rescue!” With some help from Aviva and the rest of the Wild Kratts team, who will be animated and on screen at the Tortuga HQ, the brothers confront a comic villain and once again save the day, sharing fascinating tidbits about some of the world’s most amazing creatures along the way. Audience members are encouraged to bring along their animal knowledge and participate in the action right from their seats by calling out answers to the questions posed by the Kratt Brothers during the show. TST’s Weekly Friday Social Dance

If you have been dancing for years or have never danced a day in your life, you’re invited to join Tyler Swing Thing on Friday. No partner needed, no experience required, casual dress code and the $8 admission includes the newcomer class and social. Volunteer Experience at Black Beauty Ranch

Want to help the animals? Want to learn what goes into caring for more than 800 animals from 40 different species? You can volunteer for the day, work along side the animal care and facilities teams, enjoy a plant based lunch, and end the day with a tour of the over 1,400 acres of Black Beauty Ranch. Belong to a civic or community organization that likes to volunteer their time? Or, maybe your part of a school program or company doing social impact? Help prep diets, clean habitats, prepare & distribute enrichment, or help with maintenance projects. This Volunteer Experience is open to men and women ages 18 and older. 2020 Rains County Eagle Fest

The focus of this festival is to create awareness to protect and preserve the eagle and to showcase “nature tourism” in their area. The festival offers many attractions, exhibits – including live birds, performances, lectures, and hands on demonstrations as well as vendors with eagle and nature related wares. The highlights of the festival are the bus and barge tours to see the eagles in their natural habitat. Tours sell out early, so be sure to purchase your tickets for these activities early. The barge tours are dependent on the weather.

Bethel Family Fishing Day

Join us on Saturday, January 18 for the Bethel Family Fishing Day. We will be at the Tyler Nature Center from 8 AM- 2 PM. No prior experience or license is needed. We will provide the fishing gear and bait and even some helpful tips on cleaning your fish! We’ll also provide lunch.

Silent Auction & Gumbo Fundraiser

This is the first silent auction/gumbo fundraiser. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the Angelina County Senior Center will have silent auction items to bid on. They will serve lunch at 11 a.m. for $10. They’re raising money to help the seniors in Angelina County to help fund their Meals on Wheels program.

Everything you need to know about roses

Come learn about the total care of roses including: pruning, pests and disease, planting, & overall health. You will go home with your very own Knock Out ® or Drift ® 3 gallon rose plant.

Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament

  • When: 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Where: Lindsey Park, Tyler
  • Cost: $25 per player

The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department is inviting players of all skill levels to fling a disc for the East Texas Food Bank during the 15th Annual Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18. The event will be held at Lindsey Park, located at 12557 Spur 364 West. Rain, shine or snow – the tournament will continue regardless of the weather (pending road conditions). Proceeds from this event will benefit the East Texas Food Bank and Tyler Parks and Recreation Department. Over the last 14 years, the Tyler Ice Bowl has raised funds for 123,200 meals. Canned food items will also be collected at the event. We are going for 400 pounds of non-perishable items this year!

ASL Classes

Volunteer Tracy Walker will be teaching ASL classes on Saturdays at 10 a.m. for families, at 11:30 a.m. for adults only. This is free and open to the public. This class will build over time. Makerspace: Paper-Palooza

Chiefs Watch Party 

Drink specials, games , food specials all day at the Republic! The Kansas City Chiefs return to the AFC Championship game for the 2nd year in a row at Arrowhead stadium! The Chiefs appeared to be entering the playoffs as the 3 seed, but with some unforeseen events transpiring the Chiefs became the 2 seed. Now, the Chiefs host the Titans this Sunday for the right to go to Super Bowl LIV. We all know about the failures of the past, including last year’s AFC Championship against the Patriots, but this is a different year with a more complete team that’s on a unique path in what is looking to be a special journey!
