Homeless Resource Day

The Homeless Resource Day is a collaborative effort of the City of Longview and various non-profit organizations to help meet the needs of the homeless. In one day, a person experiencing homelessness can find / enroll in / receive services that would otherwise take months to secure.  Corporations, nonprofits and government agencies provide participants with services. Potential / preferred services include but are not limited to:  distribution of hygiene kits, dental care, eyeglasses, haircuts, showers, housing information, food, personal care products, Veteran’s services, medical care, mental health services,  Texas identification cards, employment counseling / job placement, and veterinary services (vaccinations) for pets of the homeless.

Makerspace

Maker Space are problem-solving STEM tasks that use creativity and ingenuity to complete a task with limited, everyday resources. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Great for homeschool, public and private school students; Elementary to Adult. It is free and open to the public.

Storytime Around the World

Join Ms. Bobbie and the Passport Pals as you discover the most interesting and fun places all over our wonderful world. We have so many awesome and fun activities planned which includes: Crafts, story time, games and so much more. And, not to mention the new friends that you will meet as we travel throughout the globe. During the month of January, the focus will be on Russia.

KPD Mock Crime Scene 

Kilgore Police Department joins the library to solve yet another (mock) crime. Kids will get an introduction to lifting fingerprints and collecting DNA as they help police officers solve the crime.

Yoga at Texan Theater 

  • When: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Texan Theater, Kilgore
  • Cost: $15

Two yoga styles are offered each week for a balanced yoga experience. Thursday’s class is calm and restorative. All levels, including newcomers, are welcome. Bring a yoga mat. All other props are provided. The drop-in rate is $15.

The SpongeBob Musical

SFA presents guest pianist: Dr. Roberta Rust

Dr. Roberta Rust, professor and head of the piano department at the Lynn University Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida, will present a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. The program includes “a wide and interesting variety of piano music,” said Dr. Andrew Parr, professor of piano in the SFA School of Music, ranging from a familiar W.A. Mozart sonata and Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” to Brazilian tangos, to recently composed works by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Phillip Evans, Michael Anderson and Almeida Prado. Purchase tickets here.

24th Annual Gemstone & Jewelry Show

The East Texas Gem and Mineral Society is having it’s 24th annual jewelry, rock, mineral & fossil show. Visitors will be able to see club member’s display cases, fluorescent room, demonstrations and dealer’s booths supplying a variety of jewelry, lapidary and earth science related products. Minerals specimens, geode cracking, dinosaur bone and meteorites are also favored attractions. Again this year will be the famous “Rock Food Table”. Raffle and Grand Prizes tickets are available for purchase all three days, final drawings will be held Sunday after the show closes. Displays, demonstrations and vendors are dealers are available all three days. Per-registered school groups can attend for free on Friday. Silent auctions, gem identification and kids games will be held through out the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Jefferson Quilt Show

The 17th annual “Quilts on the Bayou” event is set to once again draw hundreds to the Jeffersonian Institute in downtown Jefferson as dozens of vendors will be on hand to showcase their quilts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be over 2 dozen vendors with beautiful patterns, new techniques, and tried and true methods on display.

National Beer Can Appreciation Day 2020

Celebrate National Beer Can Appreciation day 2020 at Foster’s Place in Pickton, TX. They have the largest beer selection in the area!

Country Gospel’s The Isaacs at SFA

The College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University presents its second Encore Event in a performance by the multi-Dove Award-winning and two-time (2017 and ’18) Grammy-nominated family of gospel singers, The Isaacs. Their inspirational style blends tight harmonies with contemporary acoustic instrumentation to produce a sound that appeals to audiences all over the world. The Isaacs’ unique mix of bluegrass, folk, country, rhythm, and blues, contemporary and southern gospel is heard regularly at the Grand Ole Opry and at Carnegie Hall, CMA Fan Fest and recently on ABC-TV’s CMA Country Christmas with superstar Reba McIntyre. Arbor Day 2020

Join the Tyler Parks and Rec Department for a volunteer tree planting in celebration of Arbor Day! They will be planting over 50 trees across Faulkner Park to add to the urban forest in Tyler. Tesla will also be showcasing one of their environmentally conscious vehicles. All volunteers will receive an event shirt, lunch from Chick-fil-a and be entered to win door prizes! The public is invited to bring their own shovels and volunteer to be part of this experience. Volunteer registration is now open here.

Maker Fair at All Saints

If your child can imagine it, they can make it reality in the Center for Innovation at All Saints. Join students, teachers and administrators at All Saints for a Maker Fair where your child can learn by letting their curiosity and creativity run free. Come see what can happen when your child is encouraged to ask big questions, to build and refine their ideas and experience learning in a new way. All ages welcome!

Bridal Show at Beckham Hotel Ballroom

The Beckham Hotel is hosting a bridal show in their ballroom with some of their favorite vendors. The vendors will show you how they can help you with your special day needs.

4th Saturday Live Forging Demo

  • When: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: The Blade Bar, Ben Wheeler
  • Cost: $10 for Mini Sword Workship

Every 4th Saturday The Blade Bar hosts a monthly Forge demonstration to give you the chance to see how their knives are made. You can see Johnathan Sibley – from Forged In Fire Season 5 Episode 10 – hard at work! During the event they offer workshops to get the kids and grown ups involved in the fun too! From 12 to 1 p.m. there will be a forging demonstration. From 1 to 3 p.m. there will be a Mini Sword Workshop ($10) This event is weather pending, so you can follow their Facebook page for updates.

Ranch of Dreams Tour

The Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch is a world-renowned animal sanctuary in Murchison, Texas that was founded in 1979 by author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory. Valentine’s Cookie Workshop

In this class, you will receive HALF A DOZEN EXTRA LARGE cookies to decorate in their signature Vanilla Bean Sugar Cookies. Instructors will walk you through every step of each cookie design and you can follow along on a big screen so you can easily view the process. They will also provide you with an instructional sheet to help guide you.

Try Scuba Diving

Scuba Steve’s dive shop in Tyler offers the chance for those who are interested to see what it is like to don scuba gear and swim under water. The class is called Try Scuba Diving and they offer this class through Tyler Junior College. The experience usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour. You are one on one with one of their dive professionals and you get to try scuba in the heated indoor pool! And it’s free! All you have to do is call Scuba Steve’s Dive Shop, 903-216-1811, and schedule your experience.

Robert Ellis: Texas Piano Man with special guest Jamie McDell

Before signing with New West Records in 2011, country songwriter Robert Ellis made a name for himself in Houston. Inspired by the country, folk and bluegrass records he’d heard while growing up in southern Texas, Ellis began playing shows around the state. Ellis released Photographs in the summer of 2011 and the album was selected by American Songwriter as one of its Top 50 Albums for that year. Ellis toured the US and Europe before relocation to Nashville. After nearly a three year break, Ellis returned in February 2019 with Texas Piano Man, which he is taking on the road early 2020. Wesley Pruitt Band at The Texan

Wesley Pruitt Band kicks off 2020 concerts at The Texan! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Little Universe will be kicking off the show at 7pm and Wesley Pruitt Band to go on at 8pm. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for preferred reserved seating. This event is BYOB (no glass, please) and Bad 2 Da Bone BBQ and Treehouse Cupcakes and Frozen Treats will be serving some mouthwatering food and desserts. 2020 ETX Headbangers Ball

  • Where: ETX Brewing Co., Tyler
  • Cost: Free

2020 ETX Headbangers Ball – A tribute to the 80’s. The event is taking place at ETX Brewing Company, and DJ Brandon Michael will be playing the music. Food specials will include pizza pickets, sloppy joe fries and frito pies. If you dress up you’ll get $1 off beers and $1 off food specials.

International Lego Day Celebration

  • Where: Brick Masters, Tyler
  • Cost: $5 a child

Join Brick Masters as they celebrate International Lego Day. Admission will be reduced to $5 a child. Parents are always free! You do not want to miss out on all the fun!
Godtfred Kirk Christiansen filed a patent on January 28, 1958 for his interlocking brick toys, which are now one of the most popular toys in the world. January 28 is now recognized as International Lego Day.

Join Community Christian Fellowship (CCF) in Lindale for their annual chili cookoff fundraiser for CCF Women’s Ministries! Enjoy some great chili and fun fellowship.

Goaticorn Goat Yoga

Come have some silly “Goaticorn” fun at Oh My Goat! Goats will be dressed in their Goaticorn getups. Lots of new babies on hand and some of the old favorites! Lammie will be there in full goaticorn attire! They also have a new baby lamb as a mascot. Lots of fun planned. They are giving away a few goodies like a unicorn cup and stuffed unicorns! Kids are welcome in this class, but need to stay on their mats during class. They have goat time afterwards where they can play with goats. If it is raining they will split the class into 2 groups held inside. Price includes man, pictures and goat time afterwards as well as hot chocolate or lemonade. Register here. FREE Concert with Elvis Tribute Artist Gib Maynard/Janet Adam’s

This will be the second annual FREE community concert held by Elvis Tribute Artist Gib Maynard! The holidays are always so crazy, so let’s all unwind and rock out at this free, family friendly concert. This year Gib is very excited to have Janet Adam’s as his special guest. Janet is an East Texas native who protrays Patsy Cline. She also sings hits from fantastic female artists through the ages. Donations are accepted and welcomed!
