If you’re looking for fun things to do in East Texas this long weekend, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s our rundown of some events happening around the area from  Friday, May 22nd – Monday, May 25th.

In the list below you’ll details for each event including safety precautions being taken due to COVID-19. If an event did not specify any precautions then it was not included on this list. 

We understand that we’re still in an unprecedented time, and should you choose to enjoy some of the events below we encourage you to follow all steps to slow the spread, including social distancing, frequent hand washing/sanitizing and wearing a mask.

Friday, 5/22


Registration Rally at TJC

  • When: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Where: Tyler Junior College, Tyler
  • Cost: Free
  • COVID Precautions: They’re allowing block scheduling and following appropriate physical distancing guidelines.

Registration Rally is a multi-day event located in the TJC Apache Rooms, in the Rogers Student Center on the TJC main campus. Advisors are available to assist with degree planning and course selection. This year, they’re allowing block scheduling and following appropriate physical distancing guidelines. Digital Coffee With Librarians

Grab some coffee (or tea!) and join the librarians at Longview Public Library for a chat session to check in! Follow this link to a free Google Meet chatroom. They will be discussing the upcoming 2020 Adult Summer Reading Club, and the line up of digital programs planned! You’re also welcome to ask them any library related questions, or request help on how to use their digital services as well.

Drive-Thru Emergency Food Distribution

  • When: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Where: East Texas Food Bank, Tyler
  • Cost: Free
  • COVID Precautions: The distribution is drive-thru, so there’s no contact

The East Texas Food Bank is also holding drive-thru food distributions throughout East Texas. ETFB will distribute emergency food boxes and/or fresh items such as produce, milk and eggs (pending availability). The distributions are open to any and there’s no restrictions on where you live and your age receive food. There is no ID or paperwork required, but verbal declaration of income is required. If you would like to pick up a box for someone else, you must provide a hand-written note from that person with their name, address, permission for you to pick up for them and their signature. You can show the physical note or a picture of it.

Tuxedo Cats at The Backporch in Kilgore

  • When: 8 p.m.
  • Where: The Back Porch, Kilgore
  • Cost: $10
  • COVID Precautions: The Back Porch is operating at 50% capacity

Tyler Farmer’s Market Opening Day

  • When: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Where: 4850 Old Bullard Rd (Broadway Square), Tyler

Saturday is opening day for the 2020 season at Broadway Square. Tyler Farmer’s Market is back at their original location at 4850 Old Bullard Rd (Broadway Square) in Tyler, Texas.

Historic Longview Farmers Market

The Historic Longview Farmers Market is located at the corner of Cotton and High Streets. There will be local vendors with a variety of products available to purchase.

Rhythm and Boxing Class

  • When: 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.
  • Where: Glass Recreation Center, Tyler
  • Cost: $10 each
  • COVID Precautions: Class is held outside and social distancing will be in effect

Join Tyler Parks and Rec for an outdoor Rhythm and Boxing class! They are offering an outdoor version of their Rhythm and Boxing Class. Pre-registration and payment is required. Classes are $10 each. To register or for more information, call Glass Recreation Center at (903) 595-7271.

The Diva Du 2020 Virtual Event

  • When: 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Where: Your neighborhood
  • Cost: $35 to register | Register here

They’ve figured out a way to shake up some lemon drop martinis out of the lemons you’ve recieved…..and…….this year….the 2020 Diva Du is going virtual! Complete the Sprint or Olympic duathlon or 5K in your own neighborhood between April 18 and July 29, 2020 to earn your race swag! Submit your scores (they will explain how) before the end of the race on July 29th…..and you’re done! Are you a Diva registered for the original April 18 date? Transfer to this virtual event and save 50% on your 2021 registration! All virtual finishers that submit a score will receive a race tank and medals at a pickup party for our local Divas (more info coming soon) or will be mailed to those from out of town! If you’re transferring into the virtual event from the original 4/18 date, you’ll need to have that completed by June 12, 2020. Reactivated Grief Yoga at The Children’s Park

  • When: 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Where: The Children’s Park of Tyler, Tyler
  • Cost: Free but donations benefit The Children’s Park
  • COVID Precautions: No-touch class and social distancing in place.

This is an hour-long, donation-based class designed help you become more introspective and learn what your body feels and needs. This grief yoga class will be a mix of Gentle and Yin yoga, offering gentle movement to warm up before holding different yoga poses longer than normal.  It will also be a trauma-sensitive practice. There is no requirement to share your experience. If you choose to share, we just ask you to refrain from the sharing of traumatic information to reduce triggering others. Texas Shakespeare Festival: Saturday Streaming Series

As recently announced, the Texas Shakespeare Festival has cancelled the 2020 summer season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in staying true to their mission of bringing professional theatre to East Texas they will be streaming previous productions online for your viewing pleasure. If you would have purchased a ticket to the 2020 summer season, they ask that you please consider purchasing a “virtual ticket” to these online productions. Traveling Comic Book Store: Nacogdoches

  • When: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Where: Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, Nacogdoches
  • Cost: Free to attend. Comics start at $0.50

Kenny’s Comics is putting on a free admission show with 100 long boxes worth of comics ranging from 50 cents to key issues. Loose and boxed toys, bundled sets of comics, magazines and cards and everything you can find at a comic book store!

4th Saturday Live Forging Demo

  • When: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: The Blade Bar, Ben Wheeler
  • Cost: Free
  • COVID Precautions: Must practice social distancing

Every 4th Saturday The Blade Bar in Ben Wheeler hosts a forge demonstration to give you the chance to see how their knives are made. During the event they offer workshops to get the kids and grown ups involved in the fun too! The Forging demonstration will be from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m., and the workshop will be from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. It’s $10 to participate in the workshop. Patriotic Barn Quilt Workshop

  • When: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Where: Crafts & Quilting Etc, Tyler
  • Cost: $45 per board
  • COVID Precautions: Only 4 seats available to ensure social distancing. No sharing supplies, each participant gets their own.

Grid and paint the Barn Quilt of the month – your choice of 3 patriotic designs! Folded, Funky, or Quilted Flag. The cost is $45 per board and it includes a 2×2 compressed premium wood square (already cut, sanded and primed), all paint and supplies. Participants should bring a yard stick, hair dryer, and a drink/snack. Learn more here.

Owen Tiner and Chris Rasco Live at Fredonia Brewery 

  • When: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Where: Fredonia Brewery, Nacogdoches
  • Cost: Free
  • COVID Precautions: Dedicated entrance/exit doors into the taproom, with a chained space for the ordering line. Line spacing will be marked on the floor with blue tape | Four hand sanitizer stations positioned around the taproom | They will have glass pints available for purchase, but refills will be served in disposable plastic cups | No more than 6 guests can be seated at each of their tables, and all guests must have a seat

Live music on the patio is back at Fredonia Brewery. Join them from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Saturday night as Owen Tiner and Chris Rasco knock the dust off the ol’ outdoor stage and bring brewery Saturday nights back to life! Chambers Smokehouse will be parked on the patio, and their new Saturday hours mean you’ll have even more time to come out, enjoy a pint of your favorite Fredonia beer and awesome BBQ.

Straight Outta Quarantine: The Kid Icarus Project Live

  • When: 8 p.m.
  • Where: The Back Porch, Kilgore

Given the recent circumstances,  Spring Exhibit at Gallery Main Street is available to be viewed digitally! Starting May 1 visit www.DowntownTyler.org to view the pieces online and take a virtual tour!

Locally Forged Farmers Market

What’s better than Sunday brunch? Sunday brunch at High Hill Farm. Getaway for the weekend and brunch with them in the dining room or the patio and take in the views. Canvas and Cab

Unleash your inner artist and join us for a relaxing afternoon of painting and sipping wine. No artistic experience? No problem. Just come for the fun! Seat price includes one glass of wine*, all paint supplies and your very own work of art to take home! The cost is $45 for a 16×20 canvas or $55 for a 17.5×17 wood plank board.   Purchase your ticket here. (The class will be moved into the barrel room if the weather doesn’t permit. The barrel room is kept at a chilly 60 degrees, so dress accordingly)

Memorial Day Remembrance 2020

Honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. This event is put on by Kilgore Veterans Association. They ask that you please bring your folding chairs, face masks if you desire, and practice safe distancing. The event will be cancelled if it rains.

Memorial Day Cookout

  • When: Begins at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Hall Buick GMC, Tyler
  • COVID Precautions: Social distancing

Stop by the Hall Buick GMC annual Memorial Day cookout. There will be hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks.

Virtual Memorial Day Service

  • When: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Where: Online event

Join the Tyler Memorial Funeral Home on Facebook as they live stream their Memorial Day service. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2020. Speakers will be Skip Ogle and Retired Lieutenant Colonel, Allen West.

Step Aerobics hosted by Tyler Parks and Rec
