Nacogdoches Toys for Tots

The Toys for Tots drive is underway at Tipton Ford Lincoln in Nacogdoches. The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. The stated goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver a new toy at Christmas and a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters. Tipton Ford Lincoln is proud to partner with the United States Marines Toys for Tots program as a drop off location for the new unwrapped toys during normal business hours of the dealership Monday through Saturday. In addition to being a new toy drop off destination, Tipton Ford Lincoln will donate a new bicycle for every vehicle sold from November first through December eighteenth to the Toys for Tots campaign!

Potbelly Gives Back 2019

Potbelly Sandwich Shop in Tyler is hosting a Fundraiser on Thursday, November 14th from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.. Come enjoy delicious food and desserts while raising money for a great cause. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the SPCA of East Texas. *Please leave you pooches at home for this is a human only event. 

Adult Art Series: Pull and Pour Art

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater

Put your paws together for the World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater! This new fangled family-friendly production features funny-man Gregory and his cast of daring jugglers, harebrained clowns, and over 30 animals including cats, dogs, geese, doves, and parrots. Mr. Popovich and his extraordinary Pets (all rescued shelter animals) have been featured on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” and as a finalist on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Get tickets here.

Ulysses Everett McGill (George Clooney) is having difficulty adjusting to his hard-labor sentence in Mississippi. He scams his way off the chain gang with simple Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson) and maladjusted Pete (John Turturro), then the trio sets out to pursue freedom and the promise of a fortune in buried treasure. With nothing to lose and still in shackles, their hasty run takes them on an incredible journey of awesome experiences and colorful characters.

Shakespeare’s ‘Titus Andronicus’

  • When: 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: W.M. Turner Auditorium, Nacogdoches
  • Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $7.50 fo ryouth, $5 for SFA Students

The School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University will present William Shakespeare’s “Titus Andronicus” as 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Nov. 12 through 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus. A fast-paced, twisty and dark story that is considered to be one of Shakespeare’s most bloody plays, “Titus Andronicus” chronicles Rome’s honored general as he returns home from war and begins a cycle of revenge filled with bloody deaths as punishment for a series of committed wrongs. This play is recommended for mature audiences.

Sunshine Class Bake Sale

Support the families in the Gladwater community for the holidays. All proceeds go to help families have a Merry Christmas. The lovely ladies at Clarksville City Baptist Church are making some of the best sweets in East Texas. Lunch will be served 11:30 – 1:30 on Friday Nov. 15th. With a donation of $5.00 Lunch: chili, soup and fixings, drink and desert

ETVA 4th Annual Military Dinner Dance

To continue providing a fun, elegant and affordable evening for our veterans, the cost will be $40/single and $75/couple or $50 at the door per person, depending on the availability.

Mickey Gilley in Concert

Mickey Gilley has been wowing fans with his haunting sound of Louisiana rhythm and blues since 1957. Mickey grew up with his two famous cousins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jimmy Swaggart, surrounded by the influence of music. Gilley made his chart topper debut with his song “Is It Wrong For Loving You.” After moving to Pasadena, Texas in 1971, Gilley opened his world-famous Honky-Tonk night club. He continued to show chart success with hits like “City Lights” and “Don’t the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time” both of which reached number one on the Billboard Country Charts. At age 82, Gilley continues to tour nationwide and sing his hits! Get tickets here.

Swingin’ Axes and Aces to perform at SFA

  • Where: Cole Concert Hall, Nacogdoches

Gunnery Sgt. Ken Ebo, U.S. Marine Corp Jazz Orchestra director and trombonist, will join the Swingin’ Axes jazz band of Stephen F. Austin State University in a performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The concert will also feature the Swingin’ Aces, directed by Dr. J.D. Salas, professor of tuba and euphonium at SFA. Much of the concert will feature the trombone players from the Swingin’ Axes, directed by Dr. Deb Scot, professor of trombone in the SFA School of Music. The program will feature original works by Ebo, including “Trombonius Rex,” “Sunset Parade” and “Basie Training,” along with works by Johnny Mercer, Charlie Barnett and Joey Calderazzo.

Camp Gladiator is hosting a free community workout at South Spring Baptist Church. All of the workouts outdoors, total body and for all fitness levels. They’re an hour long and all you need to bring is a fitness mat and a water bottle. No worries if you don’t have a mat, they’ll have extras!

A Roadshow to a Brighter Future

Join SFA’s Phi Upsilon Omicron at the Nacgdoches Farmer’s Market to Do Good: Bring new socks and underwear for Nacgodoches ISD children ages 4-18 years Find Good: 20+ community agencies and organizations in the Nacogdoches area to help families in need Be Good: Connect with an agency or organization where you can volunteer.

6th Annual ‘Hands Up’ 5k Fun Run/Walk

This annual event raises funds for Christian Women’s and Men’s Job Corps in Nacogdoches. They help people re-enter the work force. They provide job skills and assist with educational needs. The run will start at TJR ELEMETARY SCHOOL, 411 MOUND ST in Nacogdoches at 8 a.m.. An individual can register for $25 here. T- shirts are included with registration fee. Children under 10 years may participate free, but must be accompanied by a registered adult. Additional shirts are available for $10.

Texas Animal Sanctuary Experience

Throughout the day, participants will divide into small groups to complete projects for our facilities, equine, wildlife, and primate teams. At lunch time everyone will get a break with a yummy plant-based meal. After lunch groups will swap to work with a different team. The day will finish with an exclusive tour of our 1,400 acre ranch where participants will see the sanctuary’s resident monkeys, horses, bears, burros, bison, tortoises, tigers and dozens of other species living a peaceful, safe and healthy life. Southside All-Inclusive Playground Grand Opening

The City of Tyler Parks and Rec Department and Tyler Area Ambucs will be cutting the ribbon on the new inclusive playground at Southside Park at 10 a.m. The playground will feature ramps, swings and slides that accommodate kids with mobility disabilities and wheelchairs. These accommodations will allow children to enjoy the same playground regardless of their abilities. The inclusive playground will be the first one of its kind in Tyler.

Digging up East Texas Ghost Town History Exhibit

The Lumber Ghost Towns of East Texas are an interesting part of our history. Terry Smith of Relic Hunter of Texas has brought the historical artifacts that he has literally dug-up in Lumber Camps and Ghost Towns to the museum in this interesting limited-time exhibit.

Gobble, Gobble/ Thanksgiving Feast

J.D.’S Center of Hope will have a Thanksgiving Feast on November 16th starting at 2pm. We will be feeding the community and playing games. You may wear your pajamas to this event.

All Too Quiet a Night: Murder Mystery Dinner

On Saturday, Nov. 16 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the Goodman Le-Grand Museum will host “All Too Quiet a Night,” an action packed themed murder-mystery dinner. It’s inspired by Bonnie and Clyde. This event will transport you back in time and help support the preservation efforts of the Goodman Museum. Pre-paid reservations are required at a cost of $40 per person. ‘Messiah’ sing-along fundraiser planned

  • When: 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Cole Concert Hall, Nacogdoches
  • Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for students & youth

A community sing-along of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” will raise funds for the A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University to travel to Italy in 2020. The community event, with conductors, soloists, pianists, and featuring the audience and SFA A Cappella Choir as the chorus, is at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
