If you’re looking for fun things to do in East Texas this weekend, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s our rundown of some fun things happening around the area from November 8th – 11th. This Weekend Preview is brought to you by the Texas State Railroad.

Thursday, 11/8


Geeks Who Drink Trivia

  • When: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Where: Oil Horse Brewing, Longview
  • Cost: Free to attend, beer is extra

What is all this? Here’s the short version: Geeks Who Drink is a homegrown Pub Trivia Quiz modeled after those in Ireland and the UK. The quizzes cover everything from celebrities in trouble to wordplay to bad television. You can get a feel for the questions by playing a sample round. Each quiz has two audio rounds: a “Name that Tune” style round, and another round comprised of soundbites from movies and TV. Play in teams of up to six or by yourself if you’re some kind of savant. If you want to play but don’t have a team, go anyway. They can usually get single players recruited onto an existing team. Winning teams gets street cred, bar cash and other prizes depending on the venue. Bonus Questions for free pints are sprinkled throughout the quiz.

Veterans Banquet and Concert

The Veterans Banquet and Concert is held in honor of the men and women who faithfully serve our country. All active duty and veteran military members are invited, as are emergency services personnel and law enforcement officers. Immediate family members are also welcome to attend. There is no charge for this event.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

  • When: Thursday – Sunday
  • Where: Tyler Civic Theatre, Tyler
  • Cost: $12.50 for students, $15 General admission. Get tickets here.

G- Theater for children telling the classic childrens tale of Snow White, seven dwarfs, a magic mirror and an evil queen. The handsome version of the famous fairy tale as presented in New York. Supposedly disposed of by the wicked queen, Snow White finds her way to a happy glen and the home of seven friendly dwarfs. A deadly apple casts her into a deep sleep, from which she is revived in time by her devoted prince.

SFA School of Theatre presents ‘Oklahoma’

The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre is presenting the musical “Oklahoma!” at 7:30 nightly Nov. 6 through 10 in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus. The production features Richard Rodgers and Oscan Hammerstein II’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about two headstrong romantics’ bumpy road to true love and the high-spirited rivalry between farmers and cowboys at the turn of the 20th century.

The Sound of Music

The Hills Are Alive! A brand-new production of The Sound of Music is coming to Tyler. The beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp family will once again thrill audiences with its music, including “My Favorite Things”, “Edelweiss”, and the title song. The Sound of Music enjoyed extraordinary success as a live television production when “The Sound of Music Live!” aired on NBC in December 2013 and was seen by over 44 million people. 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the film version, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history. Get your tickets here.

Clarksville City Baptist Church Bake Sale & Lunch

It’s fa la la la la …. la la la flea market! The 3 French Hens Holiday Barn Sale & Flea Market is happening in Wills Point this weekend, and there will be vintage decor, antiques, junktiques, womens clothing, farm house decor, handmade holiday decor and more.

Junkin in the Pines

Junkin’ the Pines is a flea style venue held the 2nd weekend of May & November each year, with vendors from all over set up to market their hand crafted, antique, repurposed & vintage goods. This fall 2018 we are adding a classic/vintage car show on Saturday November 10th from 9-3 gates open 9 am November 9th 2018 close at 5pm and again November 10th 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Deck the Halls Holiday Bazaar

Come experience the magic of the holidays as you browse over 40 vendor booths packed to the brim with something for everyone on your Christmas list! And this year, visit the Deck the Halls Kids room where every business represented is owned and operated by someone under 12 (Saturday only). Door prizes every hour, and another massive Kendra Scott raffle!

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Feast

Join the East Texas Food Bank on Friday, November 9th at Bergfeld Park in Tyler to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with the Charlie Brown Gang! Jelly beans, pretzels, popcorn, toast and water will be served along with a special presentation of the movie “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” The ETFB will be accepting donations of plastic jars of peanut butter at the event.

Fall Festival at Yesterland Farm

Fall Festival at Yesterland Farm is here! For 7 weekends (Sept. 29 – Nov. 10) you and the family can head to Canton to step back in time on the farm, and experience old-fashioned fun on their brand new vintage carousel, and enjoy other roller coasters. Plus, you can walk around the farm zoo, take a wagon train ride through the woods, test your luck in their corn maze and even spend some time checking out the variety of classic cars around the property. There is also a wide variety of tasty food including burgers, pork rinds, candy, hand-dipped corndogs, pizza, funnel cakes and much more. Don’t forget to check out the Fright Farm happening after dark.

Pickin’ on the Porch 

Ryan Paul Davis is taking over the Front Porch on Friday night. He will wow you with his renditions of both classic and modern tunes. There will be food from Redneck Cookers BBQ. Dominoes, Dance & Drinks

DJ Yogoman & Bongo Jac will be spinning Country Western, Texas Blues, Cajun, Soul, and a mix of other Southern favorites on vinyl. They will be taking requests and tips. Come dance and play dominoes while sippin on your favorite drink at the Linden VFW Post 6968. Full bar available. $5 entry at the door.

30th Annual Heritage Syrup Festival

The 30th Annual Heritage Syrup Festival is Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Experience old time syrup making, folk artists, storytellers, antique tractors, food vendors, carousel rides and live music at the Depot Museum. Then catch the hayride shuttle to Henderson’s historic downtown square for arts and crafts, food vendors, live music, antique auto show, melodrama and children’s activities. Family fun and education come together at Henderson’s Annual Heritage Syrup Festival.

Hollywood Action Fest, Toy & Comic Expo

This will be Lufkin’s 1st Annual Hollywood Action Fest, Toy and Comic Expo. They’re bringing your favorite celebrity action stars and lots of entertainment, including their Cosplay Battle. They have confirmed Blue Ranger Blake Foster, Hellraiser’s Paul T Taylor, The Ninja Turtles by Cawabunga Factory, and Hasaan Rasheed from the movie Black Panther.

1st Annual Mission Tejas Harvest Music Festival

What’s the best way to welcome the cool weather? By hanging out on the Mission Tejas festival grounds, enjoying nature, and relaxing with 19th century music! Bring chairs, bring a blanket, bring a picnic, and appreciate some old-fashioned tunes! Experience the performance of local old style musicians in our pioneer park! The Old Time Gospel Project, The Big Eyed Rabbits, and Camino Real will all be playing on the porch of the historic Rice Family Log Home As this special event is put on by the Friends of Mission Tejas group, admission is free! Donations to our friends group upon entry are highly appreciated.

Clean Up Casino Night

Clean up at Casino Night with Angelina Beautiful/Clean! Go all-in to help keep our county a beautiful place at this fun event which will offer blackjack, poker, roulette, and craps for casino type games. Not a gambler? Not a problem! We’ll also have Plinko, a parachute drop, DJ for dancing, casino style buffet, and a photo booth to enjoy. Everyone will receive startup “money” to enjoy the night for chances to win many different prizes. This is a 21+ event.

The Works Cabaret Dinner Theatre Presents Flashback

CABARET DINNER THEATRE The Works Event Center, downtown Jefferson, Cabaret Dinner Theatre presents “Flashback”, back by popular demand, a Shreveport premier 8-piece oldies show band with their signature show “At the Hop”. Come take a trip back to the days of American Graffiti, Happy Days, and Grease……including songs of the legends of early rockers like Elvis, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly and the great Doo-Wop classics of The Drifters, The Coasters and Platters. My Funny Valentine

My Funny Valentine celebrates beloved songs from stage and screen. Ireland’s foremost trumpeter Niall O’Sullivan and international award-winning vocalist Shona Henneberry, along with piano accompaniment, perform showbiz favorites like Moon River, Stardust, and, of course, My Funny Valentine. This is a sublime romantic program.

Honor America Night

  • When: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Where: Longview High School Guard Shack, Longview
  • Cost: General Admission is $3. First Responders, Scouts in uniforms, veterans and all active military are free

Everyone is invited to attend Honor America Night, Longview’s largest patriotic celebration and fireworks extravaganza honoring Veterans, Military and First Responders. Featuring the Big Green Marching Machine, LHS Majorettes, Viewettes, ROTC and LHS Middle School Bands. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the gate. Veterans, active Military and First Responders are admitted free, and a reception honoring these groups will be held in the press box from 5:30 to 6:45 pm. Scouts in uniform are admitted for free.
