Working from home? Here are 5 tips to get you through the day

Matt Chandler shares tips for a more productive workday away from the office

There’s a lot of uncertainty right now surrounding the Coronavirus and how long some of these restrictions that have been put into place to help keep us all safe will last. One of those things – working from home. For some, it might be familiar but for others, it could be a completely new territory.

Here are five tips to help jump start your new work-from-home routine.

1. Keep up with your morning routine

Get up and ready like you would for your normal workday. If you get up, shower, and get dressed as you would for a regular day at the office, it’ll help get you in the right mindset to start the day and stay productive.

2. Come up with a designated workspace

Whether it’s the kitchen counter, an actual desk, or your couch and coffee table, deciding on one specific spot from where to work will help keep you task-oriented throughout an atypical workday.

3. Stay active and moving indoors

Several fitness programs and facilities, including the YMCA, offer fitness programs (yoga, core, etc.) that you can access online while you work from home.

4. Communicate

For some, isolation and loneliness are pretty big deals, especially for your mental health. Check in to see how your friends and others are doing outside of your work organization. Chances are, they’re in the same boat and could use words of encouragement. We’re in this together!

5. Know when to really “go home” for the day

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean work has to stay with you the entire day. Knowing when to call it a day will help you prioritize what you need to do tomorrow to help keep that momentum up during the rest of the week. Go enjoy some restricted free time!
