Dick and Charlie’s Tea Room
The East Texas Weekend Preview — During Prohibition, East Texas was home to many hidden speakeasys offering illegal alcoholic beverages to 1920’s thrill seekers.
Shrouded in mystery, one of these potential bootlegging spots still stands.
Known as Dick and Charlie’s Tea Room, this towering, dilapidated stilt house was in fact not a tea room. The legend goes that this was a speakeasy, or possibly a brothel, where partakers could easily access by boat along Caddo Lake.
Although there is no official history that can confirm its operations, its presence and story has become a fascinating piece of Caddo Lake lore and a must-visit tourist attraction.
Nailed to a bald cypress tree, lies a plank of wood explaining the tea room’s “rules”:

Dick and Charlie’s Tea Room sits directly above the water, and is only viewable by boat or kayak. DO NOT attempt to climb or board this destination as it is private property.
It is also located right across from the Johnson’s Ranch Marina, making this boat launch a great spot if you wanted to visit for yourself. The marina is located at: 5131 Cypress Dr E, Karnack, TX 75661
