The East Texas Weekend Preview — During our travels around the piney woods, the path to many of our destinations require some backwoods, unpaved driving.
While cruising upon these dusty, red roads, we had a moment of realization of just how special these crude highways really are.
Maybe its the crunchy sound? Perhaps the bumpiness? Or how about the encompassing veil of towering pines trees?
Whatever it is, we can all agree that these iconic, red-dirt roads are distinctly East Texas.
Some of our most memorable drives include routes deep within the forest of Lovelady, TX during our trip to the abandoned Fodice School and the windy, mysterious pathway to the delicious Slash-O-Meadery on the outskirts of Nacogdoches.

The most famous dirt road in our region is, of course, the Old Stagecoach Road. A historic, supposedly haunted path that once lead pioneers to settle in Texas in the mid-1800’s.
So, wherever you are headed to, around East Texas, why not take the scenic route? Throw up some dirt, take a break from the city and enjoy the true feel of the local landscape.
