Drive the Shortest Highway in Texas

Shortest Highway in Texas Tenaha, TX

The East Texas Weekend Preview — There are many famous roads that cut through East Texas.

The massive Interstate 20 that thousands of drivers transverse every single day. The Old Stagecoach Road in Marshall that pioneers used during the early days of settling Texas. And of course the El Camino Real, which was the ancient royal road that connected centuries-old Mexico to many portions of historic Tejas.

Yet, there is one small highway that has grown to fame for.. well.. being small.

Let us introduce you to Loop 168! Also known as, the shortest official highway in the whole state of Texas.

Located smack-dab in the middle of downtown Tenaha, this 395ft long route claimed it’s title back in 1945.

The passionate, renowned state engineer, D.C. Greer, led the formation of this project seeking to pave this downtown street alongside the neighboring Major Highway 59.

Thanks to Greer, Tenaha locals have enjoyed this excellent, smooth road for generations.

Today, you can say you’ve drove an entire highway in about 30secs!

During your travels this weekend, make a little pitstop to this piney woods town and make a small, yet memorable, drive on this mini highway.

Loop 168, and it’s historical marker, can be found here: 168 Wall St, Tenaha, TX 75974
