Below is a quick list of five destinations that we absolutely love around Caddo Lake!

Tap each link provided to watch our full spotlight of each location and plan your very own visit.

#1 - Caddo Lake State Park

With the Caddo Lake region being one of the most beautiful, and magical, locations in the Lone Star State, this East Texas state park captures every aspect of why this area is so special. Camp underneath the towering bald cypress trees, discover the historical significance at the on-site museum and get out on the bayou waters! A visit here is the best way to start you adventure in the swamplands.

#2 - Big Pines Lodge

While exploring Caddo Lake, you will undoubtedly work up an appetite. Right along the Big Cypress Bayou, pull up to this historic, local-favorite dining spot. Seafood galore awaits you and the family inside this lakeside eatery. The fried catfish and hushpuppies are fresh and out-of-this-world! Stay awhile, sit on the massive porch and watch boats, jets skis and canoes pass by.

#3 - Abandoned TNT Factory

Up for a mysterious trek through the thicket? Just nearby the state park you can take the self-guided auto tour through the decommissioned Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant. During World War II, this site was booming with production, creating explosives for the U.S. Military. Today, only remnants of the plant remain. Guests are encouraged to walk the handful of trails and experience this historical masterpiece up-close!

#4 - Paddling Trails

There’s nothing like being on the waters of Caddo Lake. And, in our opinion, the best way to navigate it is by canoe or kayak! Paddle along the Cathedral and Turtle Shell trails that will take you into some of the most beautiful spots on the lake that most people totally miss. Witness the still water, the chirping of local wildlife and the swaying of the long-hanging Spanish Moss.

#5 - Dick & Charlie’s Tea Room

There are countless stories that are shrouded in mystery surrounding Caddo Lake. One of which is that of the supposed abandoned speakeasy that stands above the waters, also known as Dick & Carlie’s Tea Room. Approach this interesting landmark by water vessel and admire this prohibition-era structure. Although you cannot enter, you can imagine all of the “activity” that occurred here during it’s illegal heyday.
