The East Texas Weekend Preview — Scattered throughout the Piney Woods, there lies many places that are filled with mystery and terrifying tales.

Below is a quick list of five destinations that earned their spots as “most haunted” during our travels.

#1 - Aldridge Sawmill

At the turn of the 20th Century, there stood a massive facility that reached as tall as the pines within the Angelina National Forest. Located near present day Rockland, the Aldridge Sawmill was once a prominent producer in the local timber industry. Before its closure, a haunting accident occurred. The story goes that a woman arrived to the site to visit her significant other. Tragically, she fell into one of the active saws... Today, you can tour the remnants of the mill. As the sun sets, its said that this woman can be seen coasting about the campus...

#2 - Old Stagecoach Road

One of the oldest, and spookiest, highways in all of East Texas. For generations, caravans and carriages would trek this dirt path as they entered and exited the newly founded state of Texas. While the road itself was difficult to navigate, bandits along the stretch made the travels even more dangerous. Many stories of robberies and murders eventually gave Old Stagecoach Road a scary, notorious reputation. Today, you can drive this historic road for yourself. Over the generations, locals and travelers have shared unexplained sightings of ghostly figures hiding behind the trees on both sides of the path.

#3 - Lacy’s Bridge

Visit this graffiti-filled bridge that’s tucked away in the Piney Woods way out on the outskirts of Jefferson, TX. As the name suggests, the site is said to be haunted by Lacy, a woman who met her demise along the bridge generations ago. The legend goes that Lacy’s ghost can be strolling the river banks below in the evening time. Being out in the middle of nowhere, we can confirm that the scene here is very quiet and eerie, giving off a very spooky vibe.

#4 - Killough Monument

Yet another secluded location that’s deep within the pines. Between Bullard and Jacksonville, there stands the towering obelisk known as the Killough Monument. This memorial honors the Killough family who tragedy killed by an unknown murderous group during the pioneer days of the 1830’s. Local legends have shared that in the late night hours, apparitions of the family can be seen wallowing around the gravesite.

#5 - Basically All of Downtown Jefferson

Known as the “Most Haunted City in Texas”, Jefferson has earned that title with a downtown area filled with many haunted tales and destinations. From the Kahn Hotel to the Grove House, you don’t have to stroll far to stumble upon a location that has seen its fair share of the supernatural. From years of wild west-type violence to the simply ghoulish unexplainable, embark on an official Ghost Walk and discover the spookiness for yourself.
